I feel like that scene where Ash and Alain are meeting up at sunset is the final part of the episode,since they are fighting at daytime, and Ash doesn't have his jacket on.

I think that's sunrise (Satoshi is in his PJs) and the summary mentioned TRio attacking the pokemon centre in the middle of the night & Alan saving them before battling Satoshi.

If I'm not mistaken, this could very be Ash's first defeat in over a year or so. Amazing isn't it? And in some ways, it would interesting to see how Ash would handle a total loss in a long time.
