Tamers is a good one to watch and it's pretty much separate from Adventure and 02 (aside from an obscure Japan only game, but it's not needed to know of before going in), it's "darker" (for Digimon standards) than the first two series if you don't mind that. Frontier and Data Squad are also pretty good series to watch and have their fair share of dark moments. For the former though, it's the kids that turn into Digimon instead of having partners, and the first 20 or so episodes are generally considered the weakest. For Data Squad the characters are teenagers (except one who's like 10) and they do have partners, in this one they're part of an organization that pretty much helps the human and Digital worlds keep peace and go against rogue Digimon and sends them back. This is only for the two anime series I've watched, if anybody has any recommendations, I'm willing to listen. I got nothing against the rest of the franchise.
The rest are generally hit or miss, especially Appli Monsters. I thought it was okay at best and like Frontier tries something new, I also really liked the characters in that one personally.
