Catching Fireflies
You're Gonna Go Far, Kid

'Show me how to lie,
You’re getting better all the time,
And turning all against the one,
Is an art that’s hard to teach.'

- The Offspring,
You're Gonna Go Far Kid

Part III of the Catching Fireflies Saga.

Welcome to the beginning of the end, kids. If you aren't familiar with CF I pity you I suggest you at least skim the 'Basic Plot' section. If you're returning it's basically the same as it has ever been - but we're going back to Alveus for the final stand against the Adduco.

You ready?

---

Basic Plot;
Catching Fireflies is set in a world that is not our own. In many ways it is different, in many ways it is the same. The world of the Fireflies is known more commonly as Alveus. The world of Alveus is inhabited by a small selection of people, each with their own talents, their own abilities. The world of Alveus is wrought by war.

Alveus is not split into sides. It is a free-for-all, and the victor will ultimately decide the fate of the world. Alveus is, however split into 'races' though races are not decided by ones looks but rather their skills or talents. These talents are not the mundane ones we possess though, the ones of our world. These talents are supernatural.

The Adduco thought that they'd driven the resistance out of Alveus when they began to take over control of the seas - they thought they'd have an easy job of it. Not so, it seems. The resistance is reforming on Alveus for one, final stand. But the Adduco aren't unprepared, with a weapon that seems to hold far more in the balance than anything had done before.

It's all to play for, in a sense. Let's get started.

---

Races;
The Inanis are those who have experienced such terror, such anguish in their lives that they have developed an almost eerie lack of emotions. They feel no sadness or happiness or anger. They merely seem to exist. That is not the case however. The Inanis have merely developed such masks that no-one can see through them. They seem emotionless. The Inanis' talents are those to do with the mind. Some can see into your very soul, some can wreak your mind with terror such like you have never known.

More rare, though, are the Gifted. They are the ones who ignore it. They live in a world of peaceful contentment, free from the horror around them. Their powers are that of illusion, of creating monstrous creatures that could destroy everything, but then that disappear at the blink of an eye. They can trick and hypnotise like the Inanis, but they cannot twist others minds.

The Devia are more common but harder to find. They live alone, in the ruined houses left behind by the war. These humans can summon unspeakable demons from the depths of hell, hide in shadows and just disappear. They are the darkness that curls through your mind, slinking in the shadows. They can be innately powerful.

The Fireflies are the most curious and simultaneously famous group, though not the rarest. The Fireflies are those who just stick through it, who keep pushing through with a smile no matter the cost. They never give up. They wield the arcane; they can create glorious swords of pure magic, can teleport vast distances like the Runners and hover as though flying. They are nigh a myth.

The Anima are those who fight with nature, who wish to breathe new life into the world. They fight with animals, with plants long forgotten. They are almost as rare as the Fireflies, and a select few have the power to shapeshift into the most majestic beasts.

The rarest group are the Runners. They are never seen. They are those that try to flee the horror of the war, try to escape the cruelty and pain. They are faster than possible, they can teleport, walk through shadows. They are the perfect assassins, stealthier then one would believe possible. They are considered the free ones, the ones that can exist in their own worlds away from the madness. And they can, for a little while.

The Adduco are those that wish for war. They can craft the most awesome technology out of the tiniest piece of metal, capable of inventing and creating the most horrific war machines, possible of destroying nearly everything, and a select few can control the power of fire. They are the ones whose powers can vary the most.

There are those who have not yet discovered their powers - mere Mortals. Maybe they have not developed precise feelings yet, maybe they just don't particulrly have opinions or maybe they're just late bloomers, but such Mortals are far and few. There are also those who don't fit in to any particular group - the Others - once again rare. They may fit in perfectly to the normal guidelines for a certain species but possess completely different powers or have completely different opinions from anyone else and possess completely different powers or have the same powers as one species and a completely different personality, but, like Mortals, Other are almost impossibly rare.

There are the Xeno, also known as Creationists - an incredibly rare race with the ability to create things out of thin air. While they may not be able to keep such things in solid form for very long they can also create sensations or feeling in people for the same amount of time. Despite the fact that such a power seems nice and kind and such the only users ate those who have completely lost their minds. Ah. In case anyone is wondering Cinna is actually half Xeno and half Gifted. But he's probably better considered an Other.

Nexi are exactly the opposite. They are able to tear things from existence - permanently if they put enough effort in, but there's often vast consequences for them when that happens. They are those who would destroy the world if only they could end the war. They are so desperate to end it that they would sooner destroy everything first than continue with the fighting. While they are generally rather kind people the Nexi are particularly emotional.

The Presul can manipulate time. They are those who dwell on the past or dream of the future, though they can normally only go back in tome or forward - not both. Some can even pause speed up or slow down time. They are incredibly powerful but often experience great sadness at seemingly random moments, and are often dreamy or lost in thought.

The Plague are a unique group in that their abilities slowly kill everything around them. Wherever they walk things die, plants curl in on themselves and they create horrible, horrible creatures from whatever decaying remains are left. There isn't really a set personality for Plague victims - it seems more of a disease than a power, and as such anyone can be cursed with such a power. They are a mostly unknown species and little, if any information about them has been collected.

The Agon are those who have an unnatural skill in combat. The power can manifest in most everyone, and is fairly common. There aren't really any strict guidelines as to what Agon can and can't do.

Rei are those who can manipulate their bodies - they can transform their entire being into liquid, make themselves so light they can float, sharpen their nails so they resemble knives...they have complete control over every aspect of themselves. It often manifests in those who have high self-esteem.

Then there are the elementals. Fire, earth, wind and water. Each elemental can only control one element, but they can use it brilliantly. It is more often seen in those who dislike company. And stuff.

There are the Prodigys; those who have a natural talent in the arts or sciences or any such field of work, more so then any natural prodigy could ever hope to be. They are those who study hard and work nonstop. They have great ambition.

And then there are the original Adduco. Not the war-mongers, but the very glue that holds together the Resistance - but they are also the very ones who brought the horror upon us. Insanely powerful, they are not to be trifled with. Ever.

And I believe that is all from me.

---

Role-playing Mechanics;
You normally won't have time to wash, to think, to do anything unless you have power enough to frighten potential attackers away from yourself. Alveus is modern, apocalyptic, yes, but modern. Most buildings are torn apart, destroyed by the war. Most, if not all of the shops have been looted. You won't find anything unless you loot someone's dead body.

Powers happen at random - normally triggered by traumatic or particularly emotional events. It is entirely possible to have none, but considering how long the war has been going on now it is incredibly unlikely. Cars exist but most have been ruined. People normally get around by free-running across roofs, through streets or by using your powers.

Probably the only proper 'city' is run by a group of Adduco, fortified by an inane amount of steel and surrounded by technology capable of bringing down even the toughest of fighters. If you are a like-minded person it is fairly easy to make a living there, whether through merchanting or offering yourself out to fight or any number of different occupations. Of course if you slip up just once - break just one rule - you're dead. The city is the only place with shops, and even then they're more like stalls, but most of the buildings have been restored by the Adduco. You don't have to be an Adduco to live there; it's just a ton easier. Anyone else and you'd actually have to prove that you're on their side.

There are other, smaller 'towns' - no where near as technologically advanced but fairly large. They don't have much order but most have a small body of the more intelligent of the survivors who run most things. They normally only accept people of their own 'species', but they're pretty open to new ideas, most of the time.

The Fireflies or Runners, however, either live alone in the ruins of houses or shops or anything, really, or intermingle with a different species’ town. There aren't enough of them to from a town together, and it's unlikely they'll ever meet anyone of the same species.

Powers are purely emotional - it is entirely possible to have a Firefly born to two Adduco. That being said it is likely that the child would've been influenced by their parents, so it's more likely they'll have the same powers.

It is possible but very rare that someone's powers can change. This is only through something that affects their outlook/ emotions so much that their old feelings have been completely torn from them. They will gain new powers, and their old ones will be significantly weaker - if they used to be able to control the shadows the shadows will merely be drawn to them slightly after the change.

Name: Gary Grey
Age: 18
Species/Side: Presul
Power/s: Presul abilities
Personality: Arrogant and extremely clever. Gary is a hard man who doesn't look back on his actions. He never explains what he does or why he does so, and often aggrevates people as he never explains his actions. He seems himself superior to everyone around him because of his powers.
Appearance: Brown fair hair with pale skin. He wears goggles strapped to his forehead and wears an expensive Adduco jacket. His eyes are brown and he often strides round with a sword in a cane.
History: Not much is known about his history as he flicks from one time to another. Forseeing some events has lead him to move from place to place, often never staying in one area for less than a year. Gary often talks of his childhood, somewhere lush and green in a land far away. People automatically presume he is lying.
Skills: Extremely skilled with pistols and revolvers or any handgun. Gary is a proffesional business man.
Sexuality: Straight
Theme Song: Devotchka how it ends.
Profession : Business man
Feelings about the War: No feelings at all. Whether it suits him or not is usually the case or whether it interferes with his businesses
Weapons: A silver imbued revolver with gold highlights.Very powerful but Gary admits he is crap with any other weapon.

Other: No one likes him very much.

Re: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid [Part III of the Catching Fireflies Saga] [Sign-ups Open

Name; James Dasher
Age; 22
Species/Side; Runner. [Partial Presul]
Known Powers; short-range teleportation, rift (Portal) creation, Timeflow manipulation.

Personality; He has lost his easy-entertainable personality after the events on the island and the discovery of his newfound time-abilities. The cost for his manipulation of space-time seems to be a desire for the past and a hope for the future. His personality has changed to that of a cynic, though his curiosity remains unchanged. He also still sees life as a very important thing, but is now more then willing to end a few to save many.

Appearance: Tall, lean, fatigued, with a grim expression. His hair is short and a clean shade of blond; ignoring the dirt that tends to get in it by the end of the day. His clothing is nondescript; a long brown coat over a simple long sleeved shirt, its color faded behind the layers of dust and grime. His pants are similarly discolored, which does allow him to blend into his environment quite well. He always carries a bandana with him, which is black and has had very little exposure to the grime that flecks his other clothes. He wears studded black-brown (again, dust) gloves and a small pouch containing a single pistol with 3 bullets in a space separated from the rest of the pouch by cloth.. The main space of the pouch is used to form a rift the size of a hand to pull his small items from inconspicuously. Thanks to the Adduco Forcefield on the beach back home though, he cannot create a rift there, and all his once grounded items are useless.

History: As a boy, he was forced on the run by the war. After several years of escaping and hiding with a small group of other children and three adults, they were found and slaughtered by a group of Adducan. He thought he would die as they mercilessly slaughtered the children, but for some reason he was never seen in the shadowy caves, while the boy who was running right next to him was grabbed and killed instantly.

A full year of hiding later he came to understand the irony of the situation. All those years of running had turned him into what he always had been; A Runner. He quickly realized the bright side of his new situation though; He was free, finally he had the power and the ability to be free while on the run, to hide in plain sight and to outrun any who dared chase him. From this thrill, this enjoyment spawned a sudden understanding of his powers, and in a short while he learned how to “blink” himself to anywhere he could see and to create small tears trough space and time, along with a further mastery of his Shadow Blending; The ability to shroud oneself in shadows to remain invisible.
Since then he has mainly relied on his own cunning and wit to survive, so not much has changed save for one thing; He now stood a chance to survive this cruel world, or at least this war.

In time, he was sent on a parcel delivery job. This took him to a village belonging to the Gifted, where he gained a house, and was sucked into the war by rebels. In the Battle of the Nameless City, he was injected with a powerful neurotoxin that left him in a state of limbo for a while. When he awoke, he still suffered from the mental wounds brought on by the poison.
The combination of being drawn in to fight in the war, the neurotoxin, and the pressure from the Adduco forcefield have disturbed his Runner powers slightly and has started an evolution into a Presul. The first time he used his Presul abilities was by accident on a ship, where he froze himself in time without realizing, only to snap out of it minutes later.

Skills; Agility, of both the mind and the body. Pickpocketing. Assassination. Hiding. Moving quickly, by means ‘magical’ or otherwise. Good observational skills, and well honed reflexes.

Sexuality; Straight.

Theme Song; World without worries – Racoon
YouTube - ‪World Without Worries‬‏

Profession; Odd jobs; Will take up (nearly) any job if the pay is right.

Feelings about the War; He doesn't enjoy the war and he still values life as much as he ever did, but now he has the conviction that life must return to a proper order, the way it once was, before the war. He still looks back on his pre-fighting life with a smile though, and wishes he could just stay in that time forever.

Weapons; Two Pis knives secreted in his clothing, along with a total of 32 throwing knives. Thin wire for strangling, a short sword secreted in an underground cave (Which is where the rifts in his pouch open.) and a crossbow with 35 bolts, also in the cave. The sword and the crossbow are unreachable at this moment though, as the Adduco forcefield blocks any rift networks from reaching the mainland.

Flaws; Rifts of certain size can knock him out if maintained for more then 5 seconds, while mainting a temporal distortion can either make him stupid\slow-witted for a time, drowsy and can cause him to black out.

Rifts cannot be created haphazardly; He needs to have an item “Grounded” to a location to safely create a rift that won’t end in a random location, while a large rift is intensely hard to sustain and has to be ‘torn’ open physically. They generally don’t stay open for more then 2 seconds, and without a grounded item may well place him in the sky or under ground, killing him as he leaves it.

Teleportation, or ‘blinking’, is highly dangerous if the target location is not in the line of sight, as he might blink himself into a wall, and be killed by it going trough his body\organs. The maximum range of his blinking is approximately 30 feet. Beyond that, it simply won’t work.

Other: N/A

______________________________

Name: Ember Scorchstone
Age 18
Species/Side : Fire elemental (duh) (Part Agon?)
Power/s : Fire creation, partial body transformation (into flames), fire propulsion, fire manipulation (shape, temperature)
Personality : A hothead in both meanings of the words. She's a temperamental woman and can't really stand being around (talkative) people, just as people quickly grow weary of being around her (due to her temper tantrums and rudeness). She is a spoiled child at heart, as she's used to getting whatever she wants one way or another, and can get sad/angry easily if she doesn't. She is brutal in combat though and will burn a man from the inside out and watch the body burn and dry and crack apart without flinching. She won't stand for being ordered around by anyone who hasn't earned either her respect or affection, and she tends to make a show of her powers when moving to make sure people don't bug her. After meeting ‘The Spectre’ of Hunter Island, she became less selfish and felt sorry for the man. She now hopes to help him regain some actual freedom from his past.

Appearance: She has long brown hair, though her eyes are a deep crimson. Her overall appearance is slim and her face is narrow. She generally looks attractive, but her face - when not covered in flame - is almost always settled in a scowl. Her clothing consists of a black ragged t-shirt and torn jeans, which seem to be able to fully resist her flames. She carries a steel spirally two-bladed sword on her waist, which she usually lights on fire when using it. She claims it's for the effect, as the guard is shaped like a dragons mouth, and the flames then seem like they are spewed by the dragon, but it actually improves the blades overall destructive power by quite a bit. She is barefoot and wears a moon pendant on a simple necklace.

History: Nothing specific. She has been able to use her abilities since she can remember and she's gotten by by stealing and living off the land. She stole her sword off an old swordsmith who 'wanted' her, and when he tried to make her pay for the sword with the only type of money she had, she burnt him to a crisp. Beyond that, she's only ever killed people - raiders for the most part - in self defense. She traveled a lot, even going from island to island trough the air, and realized one thing; People suck. They are selfish, annoying and noisy, so the best thing she can do is simply to stay true to herself, never listen to another, and trick people as they would trick her if they had the chance.

Skills; Lieing, stealing, hunting, fishing and yes, cooking. She also has a talent for combat and using her fire skills in both combat situations and her daily life. She can also tell when she is being lied to.
Sexuality; Straight
Theme Song : It's not my time - 3 doors down
Profession : Thief
Feelings about the War; She hardly knows it exists; There is always war, some wars are simply bigger then others.
Weapons: Twin-bladed dragon sword.
Flaws [e.g. clumsy, unobservant]; Rash, violent, impatient. Not the brightest person ever when it comes to alot of things that aren't directly related to human nature and survival.
Other; she can sing extremely well :D!

Re: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid [Part III of the Catching Fireflies Saga] [Sign-ups Open

Name: Evan Nates

Age: 17

Species/Side: Inani

Power: Evan can make himself appear to anyone as anything at all. While he does not alter his own physical form, the perceptions of the target are altered so he looks like whatever he wants. This can be a specific person, living or dead, real or fictional, or a thing, such as a tiger or a desk. He can also be something more vague, such as whatever a given person fears most, or the target's first love. He can also rewrite a person's beliefs to make them think he's who he's taken the form of. With this, he can make a person think he's their parent, or he doesn't even exist. However, while it can theoretically work forever, after about 24 hours, it begins to weaken, and the person begins to notice something is up. They're still under the effect, but will get suspicious, and can possibly break Evan's hold, if he does stuff that's out of character. Also, this function only works on one person at a time. Finally, he used his inani powers to gain an extremely fast reading rate, at 10 pages a minute, and has incredible comprehension and memory for things he reads.

Personality: Evan, while he hides many of his emotions, is very irritable, due to insomnia, a side effect of his powers, which cause him to constantly think, to the point where he finds it hard to sleep. He finds people who bother him while he's thinking or working hard on something particularly grating, and even when they've done nothing wrong, he mocks them endlessly. He's quite vicious as well, and quite enjoys using his inventions to harm those who he feel deserve to be harmed. However, he can be genuinely compassionate, though he tries to hide it.

Appearance: His appearance reflects his devotion to his work quite well: He's willing to sacrifice it for his work as leader of a rebel group. He hasn't cut his white-blonde hair in over a year, and thus it goes down past his shoulders.. He usually wears a white button shirt, a black tie, and black slacks. He never wears shoes if he can help it, and when he can't, he usually wears sandals. He's fairly average as far as height goes at about 6 feet tall, and has a fairly slender build. Due to the aforementioned insomnia, he also has dark rings beneath his eyes. Recently, he gained a new power, which converted his normally green left eye into a white orb with a black spiral in it instead of a pupil, which he covers with a bandage wrapped around his head.

History: Evan was born to a pair of Inani, though he was a Prodigy himself. However, he lost his mother to an attack by Adduco, and his father was executed for standing up to the rulers. This, led him to become an Inani, masking his emotions to avoid his father's fate.

Skills: Evan can cook fairly well, and knows some first aid as well. He also is moderately good at fixing things. He's been practicing his marksmanship, and is reasonably competent with his obsidian throwing knives.

Sexuality: Straight

Theme Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3F-WORz8H4

Profession: Leader of a group planning to end the Adduco's reign, which consists of Eliot, Elsea, Jason, Mary, Jeremy, Domovoi and Miami. They call themselves the FFWF.

Feelings about the War: Like the Adduco, he believes it is necessary, though in a different way: He believes that, one day, there will be a war that, in the end, has brought all the world's people under it's rule. He doesn't necessarily like it, but sees it as inevitable, and is now in the process of personally initiating it.

Weapons: He carries a lot of obsidian throwing knives, and also has a 9mm pistol to fall back on, and a steel knife for melee.

Flaws: Is kind of mean, fairly vindicative, never lies to spare others feelings, or even tells them nicely. Somewhat amoral, and very ruthless.

Other: With Eliot's help, they converted the wreckage of the submarine he tried to capture into an airship, using Eliot's Firefly abilities to create chains to lift it out of the water. They then painted it with suns, moons, rainbows, flowers, and all sorts of other cool stuff, filled the cockpit, which had had it's rooftop and top floor blown off, with dirt. There, they planted a garden with orange trees, lemon trees, avocado trees, pumpkins, potatoes, and green beans. Also, Evan built a primitive windmill to generate electricity.

Name: Eliot Nadel

Age: 16

Species: Firefly

Powers: He has two: He can absorb the sun's energy, and emit it as sharp, rainbow chains. These chains are constantly moving, and will cut like a chainsaw when touched by anyone but Eliot. He can also grow parts of his clothing, such as his sleeves, and move them around.

Appearance: At exactly six foot two, Eliot's a little tall. He has fairly long blue hair. He usually dresses in formal styles, and has nicer clothes than most, as he dedicates most of his time to finding nice ones. He usually wears a tuxedo vest, button up shirt, tie, slacks, and dress shoes, with a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses over his eyes. He recently acquired a fedora, which he wears religiously.

Personality: While the shock of leaving his parents caused him to regress back to childhood, Eliot is back to his old self. He's a hedonist to the core. He loves women, money, and candy, although he often mistakes girly looking men for the former. However, he can be genuinely nice, and even selfless at times. He is extremely spirited and outgoing too, and likes to make friends with everyone.

History: Eliot was born to a pair of Fireflies, and decided to strike out on his own when they got tired of stopping to find clothes every few hours, Fortunately, he now has enough so that he has a buffer between trips, and can repair them himself. He eventually met Evan, and began travelling with him, acting as Evan's bodyguard, while Evan used his smarts to find him some clothes and stop him from getting lost.

Skills: Finding and repairing clothing, can tie cherry stems in a knot with his tongue. He's also fairly good with melee weaponry, such as swords and hammers.

Sexuality: Mostly straight.

Theme Song:

Profession: Works with Evan.

Feelings about the War: He doesn't like it much, and wishes everyone could all just get along.

Weapons: None, except his powers.

Flaws: He's not very observant, and fairly absent minded. He's also somewhat lacking in common sense, though he does have reasonable book smarts.

Oh, and if anyone wants to have their character added/removed from the FFWF, say the word.

Name;Komantcia Hellsing

Age ;15

Species/Side ;Mortal

Power/s ;Just his wits and grit. And a hunting rifle helps.

Personality; He has survived the wasteland using only wits, using the hide of animals for shelter, the fur for clothing, and meat for dinner. He is very happy at times but when hitchhiking, he takes the weary wasteland with the eyes of a coyote, looking for any and all danger. He is very intelligent, often crafting strange traps and contraptions for his survival and quick witted. He is athletic for he has to keep in shape to deal with the humans that have powers and such and most of the time happy go lucky till the shit hits the fan. And when the shit hits the fan, he turns into the ultimate predator, charging fearlessly bulls with a broadsword. He likes to play guitar in his free time and make tea.

History; Not much is known about him but he has done a number of odd jobs when he stops into town such as a fur merchant making profits off beaver skins and lumber jack. He was apparently born in a tiny country side town but as he remarks "But when the damned fire elementals rolled in, there were nuttin but bits." and refuses to go further into detail. He has been surviving for himself for about 5 years and has many scars on his back and stomach to prove it. He has been to many towns and never really settled for he is looking for something, and he won't stop till he finds it. He has been a pirate, body guard for one foreign prince, and thief during his life time and is still on the hunt for his ultimate goal.

Skills; He has all the skills for an outdoors man can have, but admits he is crap with technology. He is okay repairing non electronic things though. He has quick wits.

Sexuality;Straight

Theme Song ;The Highway Man ~Johnny Cash

Profession; Body Guard, Fur Merchant, Lumberjack, you name it.

Feelings about the War;He believes that it shouldn't of happened but since it did, we are just going to have to adapt.

Weapons; Bowie Knife, Hunting Rifle

Flaws [e.g. clumsy, unobservant];He has no actual powers and has to rely on physical condition and wits to keep him alive. Also, he sucks at operating/repairing technology.

Other; Hitchhiker

All right, thanks.

Now, a quick question about the Plague. Would it be possible to have a character with the powers of one race who also is afflicted by the Plague's destructive effects? After all, you did say that it was more of a disease than a race, but I just wanted to make sure.

Re: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid [Part III of the Catching Fireflies Saga] [Sign-ups Open

Yup, it'd be entirely possible.

Re: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid [Part III of the Catching Fireflies Saga] [Sign-ups Open

Name: Benito Sudario, but he goes by Zaar for reasons unknown.
Age: 19
Species: Rei/Plague
Sexuality: Asexual
Profession: None

Appearance: Due to having the Plague, his appearance is very, very deformed. He has skin of a ghastly dark purple. His hair is gone. And his eyes are just empty sockets. He wears a set of pitch-black robes, with pants and boots of the same color. However, one of his more noticeable features is his right hand, which is larger than any normal hand, and bears more resemblances to a very large claw.

Personality: If having the first name of an Italian dictator wasn't a good enough tip, then I'll go right ahead and say it. This guy is evil to the core. His sadism comes in two flavors. Most of the time, he's charismatic, graceful, and quite intelligent. Even though those previous traits don't seem evil, when combined with his minor psychosis and sadism, the end result is a cunning, manipulative criminal who has a particular fondness for utilizing sharp, pointy objects. And on top of that, he's quite misanthropic, takes up killing random passerby as a hobby, and has a superiority complex like you couldn't imagine.

But then there's the side of him that shows when you manage to tick him off. You do not want to be near this guy when that happens. His insanity runs front and center, and he gets a lot more blunt about his tactics. But this definitely doesn't mean he becomes any less deadly. Matter of fact, it's entirely possible under certain circumstances for him to be even more deadly.

Powers: Due to being a Rei, he has a choice few abilities related to shapeshifting. He's able to form dark purple scales as an armor. His malformed right hand is able to morph into a variety of different forms, including a bladed form, a blunt mace-like shape, and a collection of vine-like protrusions. Due to being afflicted with the plague, almost everything he comes into contact with withers and dies. Because of this, getting a physical injury from this guy can be ten kinds of lethal.

History: Zaar had mainly grown up on the streets. No one knows why, and he refuses to tell anyone. However, around the age of 13, he had an encounter with a small squad of Adduco. They were publicly killing anyone who attempted to oppose their rule. Zaar found entertainment in watching these executions, but he started to get the feeling that he could show them up. That he was superior to those mindless buffoons.

And he did. Well, he tried to. In an act fueled by hubris, he approached the group and challenged them to a battle. But, he failed to realize that they were entirely capable of killing him. And in the disastrous battle that followed, they almost did. Instead, they decided to taunt him. Which was just as, if not more of a stupid mistake. The humility made him snap. Right then and there, his hands seemed to morph into claws, and he began tearing the Adduco into shreds. Driven by nothing but pure, unadulterated rage, he was able to slay the small group.

Soon afterward, he started to show a more aggressive nature. He started to kill more and more people, purely to show that he was superior, as well as for the sadistic thrill. But he began to show signs of abnormal physical weariness. It started to get worse. And then, he began to notice plants withering and dying at his touch. Realization struck. Somehow, somewhere, he had contracted the plague.

At first, he was filled with dread at the thought. But, throughout the metamorphosis, he began to learn to control the powers. To master them. To use them. Combined with his shapeshifting powers, he started to become more and more of a menace. But over time, the Plague started consuming more and more of his sanity. Not like he minded, though.

Skills: He has pretty good agility, and knows how to handle a sword. He's also good at stealth.
Theme Song: Divide by Disturbed

Feelings about the War:
"The more chaos there is, the easier it is to do what I do best."

Weapons: He has a katana. However, he doesn't tend to use this that often, due to it being a bit redundant.

Flaws: As stated before, hubris runs rampant with this guy. And his temper is definitely not the best, and although he can grow more deadly, his tactics start dissolving, becoming more and more reckless. Which, depending on who he's fighting, can end badly for either his opponent or he himself.

Other: Nothing comes to mind.

I might make another character later.

Re: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid [Part III of the Catching Fireflies Saga] [Sign-ups Open

Name: Josef Kaiser
Age: 17
Species: Fire Elemental
Sexuality: Too crazy to care.
Profession: Whatever he feels like doing.

Appearance: Josef has an extremely unkempt appearance. Black hair that looks like it hasn't been combed in years, eyes of a pale green, and pale skin. His outfit is a jacket with an eye-jarring blend of black, red, dark green, dark blue, and various other colors, black pants, dark red gloves where some of the fingers have been torn out, and black boots.

Personality:
This guy is absolutely insane. However, his insanity comes in multiple variations. Firstly, it partially manifests in very sadistic behavior and demeanor. He could care less if people die because of what he does. Matter of fact, he would prefer if that happens. He also has quite a sick and twisted sense of humor. He's also ridiculously paranoid. He has the constant belief that just about everyone is out to get him, and almost anything can be interpreted as a hostile action. On top of that, he has a trigger finger that itches 24/7.

Powers: Being a fire elemental, he's able to produce flames out of seemingly thin air, as well as being able to manipulate it. This can range from simply hurling fireballs to almost tidal-wave sized walls of fire. Fire does no harm to him whatsoever. He also has the ability to set himself ablaze, with no damage to himself.

History: Josef's history is known by few, especially because he can barely remember any of it himself. He does recall the moment where he obtained his powers, killing who he believed was some kind of Adduco spy trying to kill him, even when it was just an innocent bystander. He remembers being offered jobs as a contract killer, but he refused every one of them. And he remembers doing whatever he wanted to do, regardless of anyone who disapproved.

Skills: He definitely knows how to fight. Unfortunately, that's just about it.
Theme Song: Down with the Sickness by Disturbed. (Warning. Lots of expletives.) The "sickness" refers to insanity, and a good portion of the song is basically how he's been driven insane, but enjoys every moment of it. The part near the end, where he starts screaming, represents the moments where he snaps right in two, spouting nonsense and becoming extremely violent.

Feelings about the War: Depends on the day. One constant keeps showing up through: indifference.

Weapons: Let's see here...two knives stored in his jacket, a longsword strapped to his back, and a small pistol in his right pocket.

Flaws: Due to being crazy in almost every sense possible, his reasoning is almost non-existent. He doesn't work well in groups. His paranoia can make him hard to approach. And he sometimes jumps headfirst into fights that are doomed to failure.

Other: Nope.

Re: You're Gonna Go Far, Kid [Part III of the Catching Fireflies Saga] [Sign-ups Open

Name:Daemon Somera
Age:16
Gender:Male
Species/Side:Rei

Powers:As a Rei Daemon has control over the composition every aspect of his body. He can change his hair color, his eye color, his height, his weight, anything about his appearance, and even gender. It takes energy to change and to remain in an altered form so over time he will slowly begin to revert to his base form.

Personality: Daemon is a very determined person. Once he puts his mind to something he refuses to give up until he either succeeds or dies trying. He has a very high self-esteem and believes he can do anything if he puts his mind to it. He prefers to do things by himself instead of with a group. He tends to be a very hot-headed person and often responds with sarcasm when frustrated.

Appearance:Daemon, while in hs base form, has jet black hair hanging down to his nose and dark brown eyes. He stands at 6'1" with a medium build. He wearsa black shortsleeve t-shirt under a thin dark grey zip-up hoody, faded, torn dark blue jeans, black skating shoes, and black fingerless gloves. He also wears a silver necklace ending in a small amethyst.

Daemon would constantly train with his father in case they were ever found and brought into the war. At the age of nine a group of Adduco murdered his parents and left him alone to die thinking he wasn't wort the energy. He remained there for three year mourning his parent's deaths, but then something snapped inside of him and he went and hunted down a small group of Adduco. He slaughtered them all out of rage. With his first few kills over with he realised his strength and his self-esteem increased greatly.

Skills: Daemon is quite skilled in first-aid. Since his powers aren't exactly battle oriented he is quite skilled with swords and in archery. Since his powers require pretending to be someone else to be successful he is quite a skilled liar.
Sexuality:Straight
Theme Song:Uprising-Muse
Profession:none
Feelings about the War:Daemon is determined to do anything he can to stop the war. He refuses to allow other people to go through what he did as a child.
Weapons:A pair of bronse daggers, a gilded bow, and a bronse broadsword.
