An Arcane Realm Holiday Event!

At the end of the year, the people of the Magician's Hamlet celebrate a holiday celebration that is well known throughout the Arcane Realm. Every resident of the Realm is well acquainted with this celebration, due to the various activities provided and the types of competitions that are shown off. Each day for twelve days there is a different competition that shows off a specific set of skills, all of which are done to decorate the grand plaza on the final night.

Of course, this year all of the contests have already been decided. The plaza is well decorated and lit up! The centerpiece of the plaza is a gigantic pine tree, grown and chosen by the keepers of the Forest of Wands. It's covered with various glass-blown ornaments, tinsel, and crystalized ice sculptures. Various benches made by the best carpenters throughout the realm, and a giant ice castle containing the tree was made by a mysterious ice sculptor. A grand feast lines the walls of the plaza, the culinarians for the realm bringing in local ingredients from each area to create an unforgettable feast.

This all is a prelude for the main event: The Vigil of Fate. A giant table sits before the ice castle, piled on with mountains of goody bags. For this year, due to the number of new residents in the Arcane Realm, there are five colors. A dark Royal Blue bag , a vibrant Sea Green Bag, a shimmering Golden Bag, a pastel Lavender Bag, and a beautiful Crimson bag. Attached to each bag is a blank card. Each participant is to grab a bag of their choosing when the time comes. They will be handed a candle to be lit by the spirit mediums and fortune-tellers of the realm. Everyone will light their candles at once, and then the "forces of fate" (Really just a powerful wind by the King's Royal Corviknight), will blow away the flames. The cards will reveal the person's fate for the next year, and a set of goodies will be inside to help them through the next year!

Now, trainers all across Fizzytopia are flocking around the square. From the beautiful tree to the promise of wonderful gifts, it truly is a magical time for the Arcane Realm. For the first time, these small holidays get to be enjoyed by all from around the region. Now come forth and make merry, and enjoy these wonderful gifts to help with your future endeavors trainers!

You will be able to claim a bag until December 24th, 11:59 PM GMT. The results of your fortune, and the contents of the bag, will be revealed on December 25th, 1 AM GMT.
RP is encouraged, but you will not be able to claim Pokedollars or Bond from this event.

Selene walked through the Magician's Hamlet, flanked by Prism, the Kecleon fidgeting with one of Selene’s sweaters awkwardly wrapped around her to keep her warm. The two were following a series of colorful lanterns hung on the buildings throughout the town, guiding lights meant to show trainers the way to the plaza, the centerpiece of the Hamlet.

The town was abuzz with energy and movement, everyone rushing to finish their errands as the holiday steadily approached. As they made their way to the center plaza, the duo brushed past people of all kinds: craftsmen hustling about to finalize all their projects before the celebrations, magicians in training waving their hands and mummaring arcane enchantations in an attempt to clear the streets of snow (Selene was not one for magic, but she did appreciate their attempts), nobles perusing every store in an attempt to find the perfect gift to win the king’s favor, children and Pokemon hurling snow at each other--and unfortunate passerbys.

As Selene brushed the white flakes from her pants, Prism spotted a hint of deep green from between the buildings, her scales doning the same shade of emerald as she darted ahead, recognizing this as the telltale sign of the beautiful tree that was the crown jewel of the event--and their destination. Selene chased after her, afraid that the scatterbrained chameleon would become distracted by the millions of interesting and wonderful sights around them and wander off.

Finally, after a short detour involving some young wizards and a Hattena, the two came to the entrance of the plaza, the colorful decorations, delicious aromas, and cheery noises signaling that they had arrived in the right place.

At the center of the plaza was the massive pine tree that had guided them there, nestled within an icy castle with frigid whorls of white, sky blue, and teal. The tree was likewise decorated with frozen sculptures of various Pokemon that twinkled as they swayed in the wind, shimmering along with glittering tinsel and beautiful glass ornaments. In front of the castle was a table with an audience of expertly crafted benches, and goody bags of five different colors--
royal blue, sea green, gold, lavender, and crimson--were placed on top of it. However, the table wasn’t the only exciting sight. Flanking the plaza on either side was a feast fit for a king: Custap berry pies, Slowpoke tail soup, various Gogoat and Miltank cheeses, cakes made with cream from a Gigantamax Alcremie, and so on. Prism was nearly overwhelmed by the many sights, sounds, and smells, looking like a strobe light as her scales rapidly shifted in hue to match both the visuals she was seeing and the emotions she was feeling. However, before she could get carried away, Selene tapped her gently on her shoulder, pointing to the center table just ahead of them.

The two of them walked up to it, gently pushing past the rapidly growing crowd, eyeing each color of goody bag with interest.

“Take one?” Selene mused. “I think I’ll let you pick. You’ve always had a knack for colors,” she said to her chameleon companion.

Prism glanced up at her trainer, before turning back to the table. She walked up to each set of goody bags, changing to match their color as she lifted each up to inspect them. After several minutes of contemplation, the Kecleon walked up to the pile of Royal Blue bags and took one before walking back to her trainer, clenching her prize with both of her hands. Her scales changing to match the color of the bag's fabric, she followed her trainer to one of the many benches.

OOC: Tough decision, but I think I'll claim a Royal Blue bag just because I like the color. Thanks.

Kou was already at the Arcane Realm by the time the grand event was announced. He'd been looking to get an appointment with the Emperor - as the region lacked the traditional Gym circuit, he reasoned the closest thing to a Badge would be some sort of recognition token from the Realm's ruler. As it turned out, and as he should have expected, an appointment with the Emperor wasn't something so easily earned, and he found himself roaming the streets of Magician's Hamlet wondering how to proceed next.

"I suppose we could join the festivities... Surely we won't be the only foreigners present."

The Zangoose walking next to him, sporting an old and tattered red scarf, stared silently at the ice castle up ahead and the commotion in the main square. Zeras wasn't too fond of crowds, and even less of noise, but Kou wasn't entirely wrong - at worst, they could walk out with new tools to help in their quest. So the ferret nodded.

Kou's reasons were, admittedly, slightly different. He was naturally drawn to tradition, and wished to experience the customs of any place he visited - regardless of whether or not he stood to gain from it. But after having met Zeras, and learning of his father's passing in a clash with Yveltal, his responsibilities were now twofold: not only to continue his journey of self-betterment as a Trainer, but also to take up the mantle of Yamato of Kanto and avenge the legendary trainer's death.

And so, as little as that has always mattered to me, I must also start thinking of what I stand to gain for myself in any interaction... I'm not sure I'll ever make peace with that reality.

Kou approached the large table, greeting any passersby that acknowledged his presence. Zeras remained completely silent, attention focused solely on the bags scattered about. Nimbly, he jumped onto the table, caring nothing about the shocked glances of those who wished to immerse themselves in the ritual in peace.

"Zeras, behave! Fine, grab one and get down from there, please be respectful!"

The Zangoose immediately grabbed a Crimson Bag with its clawed hand and tossed it at Kou, who nearly dropped it in surprise. It was no wonder Zeras picked that color - it was, after all, Yamato's favourite one, and the same color of his old scarf, which the Zangoose now wore.

With the commotion dwindling, Kou held his Bag and looked around, imitating everyone else in hopes of finding his coming fortune and, more importantly, not drawing any more attention to himself.

It had been well over a decade since Zak had last traveled in the Arcane Realm and a lot had changed in the man’s life in that time. For one, the last time he found himself in these lands, he was accompanied by just his starter Pokémon; a plucky young Bulbasaur at that time. Nancy was now a seasoned warrior and one of Zak’s toughest companions. Today his team was brimming with different personalities with the man having added a whole new host of Pokémon to his roster in the last few months alone.

Drawn to the fabled festivities of the Magician’s Hamlet, Zak wandered the streets, taking in the delightful sounds and sumptuous smells that accompanied this time of year. Since he was a boy, the man had always been a sucker for this season and he found himself reminiscing about Christmases past as he meandered through the town in search of the main square. This year was the first in a while where he was making his own rules and the man intended on focusing his energy on having a great time with his team mates, both old and new.

It wasn’t long before the man found what he was looking for after almost bumping into a crowd of wandering trainers. This quickly snapped him out of his daydreaming and the trainer spotted the tell-tale sign of a Christmas tree poking above the rooftops. This tree was said to be nurtured and grown each year by the keepers of the Forest of Wands and this was evident in the majesty of the towering pine. That wasn’t all though; each branch was adorned with opulent decorations that twinkled in every colour. The whole experience continued to fill the man with joy and he pressed on towards the square to take in the festive tree in its entirety.

With the decorated pine in sight, Zak found himself quickly gathering his bearings and picking up the pace. Within a few minutes, the man found himself approaching the grand plaza in awe. The tree had been impressive enough but the plaza itself was something else. Around the edges, a feast of delicacies from across the globe were being served and people were milling here and there or gathering in pockets on the most ornate of furnishings. As the man got closer to the tree, he noticed something else that made him feel a little giddy; the tree was set in a gorgeous ice sculpture of a castle, the details of which were really quite something to behold. Already in a state of seasonal overload, the table of presents laid out for the Vigil of Fate ahead was the icing on the cake. The hamlet was clearly expecting the entirety of Fizzytopia to pop in for the event, with presents of every colour stacked high on a table before the castle’s walls.

Taken aback by the various different presents, Zak carefully eyed the selection before settling on which colour he liked the look of most: when the time came, he would collect a Lavender bag from the table and prepare for the vigil in the square alongside the ever-gathering crowd. The thought of receiving a fortune for the year to come was quite exciting and his mind started to wander once again as he waited to gather up his gift. The possibilities were endless and this excited the man as he wondered who or what he might encounter in 2021.

Leo looked over the plaza in a sort of awe, surprised to see the amount of effort put in to make it as festive as possible. This was a far cry from the Alola region for sure, the tropical climate not well suited to half of the things he saw. Though, the thing that impressed him the most was that despite how well lit the place was he could still see the starry night above him. It was as if the heavens themselves were partaking in an event as grand as this.

But, that alone wasn't why he was here. He was here to celebrate with his friends. The friends he had made along the way in his journey of being a trainer. There was his first partner Pokemon, Custard. Then slowly but surely more and more Pokemon joined his side. It was hectic, to say the least, but he enjoyed the challenge. Then there was the mysterious trainer he had become acquainted with. Surely he was around here somewhere...

"Yo, pastry boy," he heard a voice shout through the crowd as a familiar tall figure slinked over to him. He could see a drink holder with warm hot cocoa in one hand and a variety of festive treats in the other.

"Ethan, could you please stop calling me that?" Leo asked, his words cut and dry.

"Hmm? Thought you liked it," he responded nonchalantly. His gaze was always piercing, analyzing, but more often than not the man was bored. Leo didn't really understand him a lot of the time, but there was just something about him that interested him.

Leo knew to never battle Ethan; he was cutthroat and very much dominated in a fight. He was cold, calculating, but also haughty and prideful. Certainly a trainer he never wanted on his bad side. But, when it wasn't involving battling, he was apathetic at best, brooding at worst. He was detached from reality, and sometimes muttered things unintelligible. But that was fine, the company was enough.

Of course, the major worry was the migraines. Leo never knew how to deal with his roommate's migraines. It was a hellish experience, and at times it seemed like the trainer wasn't himself. Sometimes they would fade as soon as they arrive, but at other times they made Ethan catatonic and comatose. But, the mutterings only got worse during those times. Something about memories... He didn't really understand it, but he didn't pry.

Shaking his head, Leo grabbed one of the drinks and began to sip at it. Peppermint hot cocoa with gingerbread whipped cream. It was an interesting combination, but it surprisingly worked. Then again, this is where the best of the best lived in terms of their craft. Even a small day trip to the Hamlet was well enough worth it. He'd enjoy living here compared to the City of Pentacles, but he didn't have much of a choice in the matter.

"Well, are you going to choose a bag or what?" Ethan asked him, trying to drag Leo out of his thoughts.

"Oh, right, a bag! Aren't you going to choose one?" Leo questioned.

"Nah, this kind of thing isn't really up my alley. Food's good though, and I knew you'd complain if I didn't join you," Ethan responded cooly as he took a bite of an ornately decorated sugar cookie.

"Well, your loss then," Leo shrugged as he went towards the table.

It felt like there was a mountain of different bags available. Looking at the five colors in front of him, he opted to pick up the royal blue bag. It wasn't exactly his color, but something about it looked better than the rest of the bags to him. Grabbing it, he headed back to his little group before hearing a loud crystal bell ring through the area.

"Guess it's time," Leo said under his breath as he made his way back.

Whatever gift he'd get, the thing he'd remember most was enjoying this starry night.

"Woooow," Maribel murmured, marveling at the extravagantly decorated plaza. "This is beautiful!"

"Shellll..." Shelgon agreed, eyes wide with interest as they peered out from the hole in the front of his shell. Even the cold, snowy weather wasn't bothering the Dragon-type very much, so beautiful this all was.

Maribel stopped and turned around. "Mom, Dad, c'mon, we're nearly there!" she called back, for indeed, Keith and Willa Masters were not far behind. Meowth was on Keith's shoulder, as usual, and Noxie and Vivillon were also out of their balls, taking in and enjoying the beauty of the gently falling snow that so visually suited the pair of them.

Willa chuckled. "There's no rush, sweetie," she said fairly.

"Your mother's right," Keith nodded. "We're here to enjoy ourselves, after all. We're not in a hurry, and there's plenty of time."

"I know, I'm just so excited!" grinned Maribel. "Especially after seeing how beautiful this all looks- have you two seen the plaza yet?"

"Not yet, but- oh, holy crap, that's beautiful," Keith murmured. "What?" he added with a chuckle as WIlla gave him a look..

"In front of our daughter?" Willa inquired, a tiny smirk betraying her otherwise admonishing look.

Keith smirked back. "Her first word was 'shit'," he reminded his wife. "That ship has sailed, hit an iceberg, sank, and had a movie made about it."

"You make a valid point," Willa conceded. "Though I'd rather not use Gavin's influence on her as an excuse to speak like that around her all the same- oh, holy crap, that is beautiful," she added, eyes widening as she caught sight of the festively decorated plaza.

Now it was Keith's turn to give a would-be-admonishing look. "In front of our daughter?" he smirked.

"Oh, fine, I suppose Gavin's said far worse," conceded Willa.

"Viiiivillon!" Vivillon trilled in agreement. Noxie gave a few barks of acknowledgement as well.

Once they arrived, it soon came time for the goody bags to be selected. Maribel went up by herself to select one- her parents declined to take any for themselves, having unanimously agreed that, this being her first Christmas since the time distortion, she should have the honor.

"Hmm..." Maribel murmured, looking at the various colored goody bags. "Shelgon, what do you think?" she asked.

"Shel..." Shelgon murmured thoughtfully. After a few moments, the Dragon-type pointed a stubby front leg at the Crimson Bag.

"Ooh, I like how you think," smiled Maribel, reaching out and grabbing it. "I guess now we just go back, and wait for them to pass out the candles before we find out what we actually get." And with that, Maribel and Shelgon headed back to where Keith and Willa were waiting.

Liawe's arrival to the Magician's Hamlet was... eventful, to say the least. Caeda was staying at the camp this year, and so she ended up taking the next best mode of transportation. That being Vulthuryol, who hadn't quite got the hang of "passenger transit" yet and had on no less than three separate occasions, veered off to hunt in the fields on the way here. Liawe had even fallen off once, despite her experience of travelling in similar manners, though that was mostly due to Vulthuryol's triple corkscrew into a loop to catch a Pidgeotto midflight. Having shakily recalled him after the actual landing, Liawe rummaged around to see which miscreants she'd brought with her this time, and was pleasantly surprised to see Arranoc and Atylwyth pop out of their Pokeballs, the auburn and white foxes clearly pleased to be at another festival. As the Vulpixes frolicked in the snow, two shapes fluttered around her head: Robin and Carl bringing themselves to land on her shoulders like a pair of parrots with a cheerful chirp. Vulthuryol was redeployed accidentally, but he seemed content to wait on the outskirts and chew over his latest meal still. Liawe wasn't quite sure what, but she hoped it wasn't someone else's Pokemon. And then, there was the sixth, who seemed to have already hopped out ahead of schedule. Looking around frantically, Liawe couldn't seem to spy her missing squad-member, until she caught a whiff of something behind her, only for it to remain there as she turned every which way. The puzzle resolved itself both swiftly and accidentally as Liawe put her hood up: Cavaroc, her freshly-hatched Bounsweet, was napping there. Quickly relocating the sleeping youngling to her arms, Liawe set off for the festival.

Arriving at the snowy plaza, Liawe was surprised by the contrasts of the festivities: The great tree all lit up with bright and vivid colours, all encased within a castle of ice that magnified and refracted the light so that the entire plaza was bathed in a virtual rainbow from the core. Someone, or likely several someones, had put some serious design work into that, and they'd pulled it off magnificently. The multivarious stalls were illuminated by the central spectacle too, with crowds already gathering around most. Arranoc and Atylwyth were sat entranced by the lights, while Cavaroc, who had just woken up, was more interested in the white stuff on the floor. Bouncing out of Liawe's arms, she found out to her shock that snow was, in fact, incredibly cold, eliciting a shocked squeaking from her as she bounced straight back into the warmth of Liawe's arms. With the birds scouting for scraps and crumbs, she set off to explore the event further, with the twin Vulpixes at her heel and the shivering Bounsweet wriggling deeper into her arms, eliciting a rare smile from the trainer.

Before the tree and castle stood a shrine, one that may have been there for millennia and will probably be there for another few. Five types of bag, one free to each person, or so the sign said. Liawe was the only one to really notice this: The birds were still scavenging for snacks and the Vulpixes were messing about with ice and fire sculptures to create a miniature version of the castle's magnificence, while Cavaroc was still recovering from the shocking revelation of snow being cold and was wriggling deeper into her chest in a bid for more warmth. Chuckling, Liawe approached the table, checking her options. Gold, red, blue, green or pink... Many choices, and none that she had any particular inclination to. As always though, Liawe rarely had a hand in her own path, and this was no different, as Robin and Carl noticed the shrine and began moving in, with Robin grabbing one of the blue bags as he brought it to his Trainer, only to receive a peck in the flank from Carl, who was angling for the same bag. "Calm it, you two!" she warned, as she stroked Cavaroc on the head to calm her down after Robin dropped the bag on her head. "Looks like we're picking blue then..." she murmured as the Vulpixes came over to see what the fuss was about and Vulthuryol lumbered over, having finished his mystery snack. "Come on guys, let's go get ready for this... miraculous fate-reading." Fate was rarely on Liawe's side, and her lack of control over certain squad members was near-legendary she felt, but perhaps things might change this year. And maybe snow would burn and the sun burn silver. Now that was an idea for her next picture...
