I do keep tabs on the Japanese version, but stopped watching the dub when the English voices changed

Nice. I stopped watching regularly around the Unova League. I did watch XY here and there because why not. I have not seen any episodes of Sun and Moon and Journeys.
I was not interested in the School theme of Sun and moon. I liked the idea of Ash sticking around in one area though. From what I have read, the producers might as well have not bothered with the shcool and had all the interactions happen at Kukui's place since they never really did anything school related.

This is why Alola (and Galar) follow their game plots--they had so much potential to tell a good story, and then they had to turn the show into a school comedy--what that's not what Pokemon is (to me.)
