It's more implied than anything. It gets thrown back and in the preview we see Amethio fighting Sprigatito and Fuecoco instead with Rhydon nowhere to be seen.
To be fair Golduck isnt actually the strongest (A Sprigatito could actually beat one in just a few turns if it doesnt get knocked out), and Rhydon had been battling a few other Pokemon before Fuecoco.
They have to give Sprigatito more quirks eventually, atleast if they plan to ever evolve it. "Litterally just a cat" only kind of works with Floragato and would be very weird on Meowscarada.
Eh I'm kind of fine the battle was off screen, especially since Sprigatito has only been using a single move anyways, couldn't have been very interesting to look at.
