Yeah, Ash's water-types, aside from Greninja, always get the short end of the stick. Just look at poor Palpitoad.

Those were two of his Pokemon that should have evolved, Buizel especially since it loved to battle and get stronger. It deserved it so much more than Gligar or Starly, anyway. Honestly it probably would have done better under Paul's care.

That'd probably be to sit down and do some actual training to make sure all his Pokemon could battle at their best. A good Champ would likely have a variety of Pokemon to use, but I don't think his Oshawott, Boldore, Unfeazant, Totodile and many of his other pokemon are ready for the champion...

If he got to battle Brandon's full team like Paul did it'd be a pretty epic battle, i'd think. What if May had traveled with Ash to Sinnoh? What if Ash got to capture that Riolu he helped out during Sinnoh? What if Ash's Totodile got to evolve into a Feraligatr?

He'd likely have a caring Gyarados and could have actually posed a threat to Ash and Co.

If Kanto had the same kind of writing as the later seasons we probably could have gotten something like that. But sadly it was just never brought up. --- What if Brock kept Charmander? What if Pikachu had a Light Ball? What if Axew evolved through Unova?

If Charizard burning and disobeying Ash wasn't always played up for laughs then that's probably what would have happened. Pikachu's nice and all but I don't think he'd just sit there and let his trainer get injured and disrespected like that.

2- Maybe his Johto team would have gotten more time to shine if Charizard weren't there to hog all the screen. 3- Don't think Pikachu would have taken that kiss Ash go from Serena so well.

I think Mudkip could have worked too, the only reason she didn't pick it is because it blasted her in the face with water when she tried to rescue Birch. If Piplup has Sceptile's personality I may have actually liked the thing. Another three from me: What if Latias traveled with Ash through...
