In Popplio's defense, at least she actually did plenty of stuff onscreen in all evolutionary stages whereas with Drizzile they pulled a horrible "it's been training offscreen this whole time" stunt just so they wouldn't have to give the middle stage screentime.
Yeah, the problem with Rowlet is that he was too unrealistically powerful and skilled despite his general lack of work ethic. Made all the more jarring by the fact that literally every other Pokemon of Ash's was constantly seen training and improving themselves whereas Rowlet only did that stuff...
Oshawott. Being unfunny is bad enough already, but Oshawott's Imma-constantly-steal-food-from-my-traumatized-teammate-and-get-away-with-it-because-it's-somehow-okay-if-a-cute-character-does-it gag took it up a notch and went straight into downright mean-spirited territory which didn't sit well...
