Since they said Zubat and Dragonite are getting special treatment, I predict we're gonna see some sort of Alolan Zubat and Dragonite. I can see a Dragon/Fairy-type Dragonite (since it's cute), and a Psychic/Flying-type Zubat that focuses even more on confusing its foes.
I've never been fond of the concept of Mega evolution. There are some cool designs, but they aren't really outlets for the wacky and creative concepts GF's been making since Gen V. This is a better way of "reinventing" old Pokemon while also being able to do something more creative with them...

Water/Electric-type Tentacruel. Electric jellyfish are everywhere in media, and Tentacruel has good stats anyway so it'd have a good chance of being good.
Flying/Steel-type Farfetch'd. The leek's turned into a...
I think that Exeggutor is based on the dragon tree, an introduced species to Hawaii. It's in the monocot family, making it a distant relative of palm trees.

I doubt it. GF rarely does the most obvious things these days. They like doing things completely out of left field, like a Dragon-type palm tree. That still makes me laugh way too hard.
If there's a relatively small amount of new Pokemon like there were in Gen VI, variants are a much better excuse for that than Mega evolution was. They have different typings, probably different stat spreads, the possibilities are endless. They'll be more like "new" Pokemon to me than Megas...
