I’ve just realised, in the scene when Ash gets the letter about the battle from Goh, it’s to be assumed Ash was busy with training and wasn’t around for when it arrived.
If that’s to be the case, the Pokemon Ash was training was Sirfetch’d, Pikachu, Lucario, Dragonite and Gengar, but there was...
Well, according to the sub, Drayden says “Iris is our current top trainer, in other words the reigning Champion”.
I guess Virgil was too busy with the Eevee squad? Last time we saw him, he demolished Cameron 6-3, and remember, Ash lost to Cameron 6-4...Ash has come a long way!

Ash sees the potential in every Pokemon, regardless of what they are (Goomy, Chimchar, etc.). Since Dracovish, and I think Drayden even said this when Dracovish came out, is a recently discovered Pokemon, so perhaps Ash was just taking precautions towards using it, since no-one knows what might...
Can I just say, the Gym looked incredible. Most of the time they stick to a bland theme of seats/stands, and the battlefield, but here, the exterior looked cool, and the statues of Haxorus and Hydreigon around the battlefield made it look so awesome.

In B&W, there were three female rivals - Bianca, Burgundy, and Georgia. The last two were rivals of Iris and Cilian, whilst Bianca only fought Ash once. She was never really a rival, at least in my eyes.
Few things to say about this episode...
1) I’ve noticed a trend with battles in this series - they’re trying to be unpredictable in terms of everything. Previously, when Ash faced someone/gym leader, Ash would normally lose if the person he was facing didn’t have an introduction episode...
