In fact it was. IIRC, it began as an unsuccessful manga in 1975, later resurfaced as a Game Boy game that began development in 1990, and was eventually released as Pocket Monsters Red and Green in 1996. In fact, here are a few links that I managed to gather from an old thread on SPPf:

So Pokemon is technically 30 years old. It would be interesting to read. Wasn't it created by Satoshi Tajiri himself before Game Freak Magazine was created?
