  • You seem very fluent in Japanese, too. o.o

    Hmm...well...what's your favorite genre of anime?
    ^^;

    Good to hear. :3 I uh...to be honest I kinda just randomly decided to VM you because you seem like an interesting person and I wanted to get to know you, but in all honesty I'm not sure where to go from here. XD
    O___O ...*runs it through Bing's translator*...Oh! I'm doing well today. ^^; What about you?

    Sorry, I uh...I don't know a lot of Japanese to begin with, and I can't read symbols at all. ._.
    I have no idea what that meant xD

    Now for the saga that caused much controversy among the fanbase...

    Seasons 6-8 - The Hoenn Saga

    I'm just going to start off by saying that I don't hate newer sagas, per se, they just don't rival the OS. Anyway, this was an attempt at a "fresh start", that failed. First of all, they had Ash deposit all of his Pokemon except for Pikachu (and Bayleef doesn't even really react to it, compared to how she did in the Whirl Cup), which is stupid, especially since he's attacked by Team Rocket on an almost daily basis. Needless to say, it gets pretty old just seeing Pikachu and his five other Pokemon. This series is also quite infamous for having got rid of Misty to make room for May and Max. Unlike Brock, her departure was not temporary. She still had cameo appearances, but those soon stopped.
    Yeah I'm the writer of Back to Basics :p

    Seasons 3-5 - The Johto Saga

    This saga is hated by many for its insane amount of fillers, rushed endings for certain characters (Misty, Gary, etc.), Ash's team not improving much, "stale" characters, and just not living up to Kanto overall? So, what do I think of the Johto saga?

    It's pretty underrated.

    Yes, it had a lot of fillers, but not all of them were completely pointless. Many of them added something to the series, and (like the previous episodes) had morals (something this show is sorely lacking nowadays). Also, they were executed well and entertaining, which is really all that matters nowadays. Misty did have a crappy ending, but she was still a good character. As for Gary, his dilemma could have been solved with a bit more foreshadowing, as it was, it was just an excuse to write him out of the show so Ash wouldn't have a rival for AG. Just because a team doesn't have a lot of evolutions doesn't mean it's not good - if that was the case, his BW team would be stronger, or at least equal to his DP team. His team may not have "improved much", but then, the anime isn't about battling. Even though it didn't live up to Kanto, it was still awesome! Like OI, it retained certain elements of the first season, and it had some great episodes!

    I disagree that the characters got stale - I liked that Ash got more mature, while still retaining his rash personality, Brock was Brock, of course, and Misty got more mature (all thanks to the "Egg of Doom" (Togepi)). I liked the addition of Togepi, because it forced the writers to try something new with her instead of always using her angry side. It's not like she stood on the sidelines the whole saga, that's an exaggeration at best, and at worst, a complete lie. Team Rocket was still awesome, and COTDs, while not as memorable as Kanto's, still had some gems, like Sakura and Casey.
    Genki desu, anata wa?

    The episodes themselves were quite good, none of them were duds. We had a great variety of episodes. Snow Way Out started off as any other episode (considering what season this is, that's a compliment), but then turned heartwarming. Go West, Young Meowth was a heartwrenching episode, heck, it could even be funny (Island of the Giant Pokemon). To add on to the experience, this season had adult themes, and a genuine sense of darkness. It had adult jokes that only adults were understand (and not toilet humor or forced jokes), and it succeeded in being dark without going too over the top with melodrama.

    To put it simply, this season had a story it wanted to tell, and told it excellently. My only real problem is that this season is just too perfect, setting a really high standard for later seasons to come. OI and Johto lived up to the standard to an extent, but later sagas? Not so much. Because of this, I'll have to decrease the score by .1%.

    Season 2 - Adventures in the Orange Islands

    This (somewhat) filler arc saw Brock temporarily replaced by Tracey. I didn't mind him, because, while he wasn't Brock, he was still decent by himself. I, for one, appreciated what the Orange Islands did for the anime. It had Ash get badges, but not just by battling - in addition, he had to do challenges, too. I appreciated the twist on the typical badge journey, and I wished other sagas would throw in more unique stuff. Even though it was toned down, it still retained some adult themes, and it wasn't completely kiddified or watered down for younger audiences. People will argue that the anime is for kids first and foremost, but that doesn't mean they can't throw in something for everyone, and it certainly didn't stop them back then. Another thing I liked was Ash winning the Orange League to make up for his loss in the Indigo League, he had come a long way.

    Blog #2 hidden here

    Hey there, BMGF! Since my first blog was so well-received, I decided to create a new one. No beta-readers this time, just me, myself and I. This one will be titled

    THE RANKINGS OF EACH SAGA

    Now, to get straight to the point, let's begin this blog.

    ~~~
    Season 1 - The Indigo League
    Ah, the anime that started it all. This is often heralded as Pokemon at its best by many fans, and for good reason, too. To start, the characters (both COTDs and main characters) were great, and also memorable! Ash, Misty and Brock really worked as a group, and could stand on their own as characters. They each had their own unique ways to stand out, and were not cliched. The Gym Leaders were actual characters that had their own story arcs, and not mere plot devices. The villains (Team Rocket) were original in that they provided comic relief, while also standing as a threat, making us laugh and providing a sense of urgency at the same time. COTDs were great characters too, and not just generic stock characters. And of course, who could forget Gary Oak? He was always one step ahead of Ash. Unlike in many other sagas, events and happenings lasted for more than just the episode they were in (SS Anne Arc). The battles, though not "epic", were short and to the point. There were some inconsistencies (Pikachu's electric attacks working on rock types), but I wasn't bothered, unlike many.
    Neither of which I'm fond of, honestly (. .) I always liked Cowgirl coz it was more distinctive...
    But eh, watevuh duzn't flip yer ship~
    Edit; oh, but Gothitelle > Silver seeing as Silver is both a common character name and username, part of why I continued referring to you as Cowgirl over there - there's just so many other Silvers (. .)
    Editedit; whaddabowt sumfin incorporating the word 'argent'? It means silver, and seems fairly unique as far as names go.
    If yew want, I guess (. .) I was never a fan of having a username parallel to a fictional character.
    ...Well, besides Twylis. But Twylis doesn't count since it's maiiii fictional character~ *shot'd*
    Hellooooww~ (. .)
    Andand if yew'r wonderan wai I'm takinh sho lawng, blaem boff Lunar and nao hazzan ta deal wif skewlstuph (, ,)
