If Ash beats Eternatus, he might seem overpowered? If Diantha couldn't even beat the Rillaboom that Alain had already defeated, how strong would Ash be if he beats both the champion and a legendary Pokémon?

Sure, he has a lot of experience since this anime is pretty old at this point but they also insist that time never passes...

On the other hand if Eternatus doesn't battle at all, what was even the point of bringing it up?

Seeing his old friends cheering for him would be heart warming now when Go has decided that he has more important things to do than support his best friend lol. But I also don't think that will happen. Maybe a cameo from Tracy watching on TV at best.

They may have just decided that being locked away in a safe forever was too harsh, plus being "rehabilitated" is what happens to Eternatus in the games but they don't want a protagonist having Eternatus' power so they used Leon instead.

I hope to god you are being sarcastic
Actually, I'm pretty sure she isn't. She genuinely wants Ash and Serena to end up together and frankly, so do I. Is that so wrong? I mean, Serena and Ash are probably going to end up together one way or another anyway (given her immense popularity and the popularity of the ship,) so why not now?

As for Ash's friends being there in person, that should happen. I mean, this is supposedly the biggest battle of his life, why shouldn't all his friends and family be there for him?

I mean, considering the massive scope of this battle and its huge implications, there should definitely be at least somebody there cheering for Ash! Again, this is supposedly the biggest battle if his life after all. And honestly, if Goh is going to make it in time to see the battle, he should end up escorting Ash's friends and family en route to the stadium so they all end up there together. (I heard that suggestion on Twitter I think.) Otherwise, if Goh doesn't make it and the most recent really was his goodbye episode, it's not that big of a deal to me. I've already been pretty vocal about my dislike of Goh's character (whether it was because of the very nature of Journeys or not,) and him not being there wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Honestly, I've always considered Goh's friendship to be one of the weaker friendships Ash has had with of his travelling companions. Remember how big of a deal it was Clemont split up from Ash temporarily in XY? This isn't even the first time Ash and Goh have split up! Hell, this will be the 3rd time it's happened! It's one of the reasons I consider their friendship to be on the weaker side. I certainly never considered Goh to be a "main character." He's what all of Ash's other friends have been-a travelling companion, nothing more. (And again, one of the weaker ones.)

To be fair, the people who've spent the longest time traveling throughout the world with Ash are there to cheer for him.

Team Rocket.
Oh yeah, good point! His biggest supporters of all! Why don't they just quit being members of Team Rocket already? The writers clearly don't know how to write them as villains anymore, and they're much better on the good side anyway.

Either way he probably won't end up with anyone as he's in love with pokemon battling

Plus, let’s be real, it’d be contrived as hell if he did. He traveled with her for the same amount of time as he has with any girl that’s not Misty, is constantly traveling and meeting new people and doesn’t seem to keep in contact with Serena. She had a crush on him and kissed him but there’s never been any indication of him returning the feelings and without consistent contact, there’s really no ground for Ash to grow to have feelings for her beyond friendship.

The power of doom posting. When proven wrong, rather than just bowing out with grace, just double down.
The doom posting is getting irritating. This song doesn't prove Ash will lose. We don't know when it will play. It could be at a critical moment when Ash is starting to give up hope in the battle. Its not definitive proof Ash will lose.

I'm more annoyed by some users passing their opinions as facts and rather rudely dismissing fellow posters.

I agree. Especially when other users spend time and effort writing paragraphs as a response, only for those users to just respond with a single sentence that is tangentially related to the discussion.

Alola,

Just a reminder to be civil and courteous with each other when expressing opinions in these threads, as well as referring to other users; this includes explicitly and inexplicitly. I also want to remind users that all opinions are valid regarding the conclusion of the Masters 8 - opinions that Ash will win or will lose have equal bearing here regardless of whatever "evidence" one believes exists or does not exist for either argument. As the event draws near, along with the controversy that is sure to follow, please remember to discuss said event rather than target or reference other users and their opinions.

As always, if there is someone whose posts you disagree with and a changing of opinion is not likely, you can always a) skip over their responses or b) hit that Ignore button (please).
