We don't know yet. During Q&A they declined to comment.
They'll either be absent entirely, which if you think about it, isn't that detrimental to competitive play, a Pokemon with 0IVs and 0EVs vs. another Pokemon with 0IVs and 0EVs will be just as balanced as Pokemon with 31IVs and 508EVs vs. another with 31IVs and 508EVs. It'll be sort of Gen 1 or Gen 2-esque.
They could also be avialable through alternative means, we could still get IVs through hyper training if breeding isn't available post-game, super training could be available for EVs, or specific trainers set aside with mono-EV rewarding teams.
Then don't buy it, but don't write it off as some spin-off or half assed Kanto edition.
This game looks freakin' amazing and if you can't set aside your anti-Kanto bias to see that, that's a you problem, not mine
I mean, i’m happy for you that you like the games, but a lot of us don’t care about revisiting a prettied up (if you can even call it that... the artsyle looks horrid imo) 1:1 version of Kanto.
Adding post gen 1 pokemon as DLC is the scummiest thing GF could do. We also have no indication that they want more than Kanto pokemon in this game.
In case you didn’t notice, I’m the person correcting everyone who calls this game a spin off on this thread. Then don't buy it, but don't write it off as some spin-off or half assed Kanto edition.
I’m not biased towards Kanto and have prepared myself for the possibility for a long time. This game looks freakin' amazing and if you can't set aside your anti-Kanto bias to see that, that's a you problem, not mine

They’re just trying to not say officially that it’s a spinoff. The very use of ‘core RPG’ is also a way to cover the fact that it’s not a classic Pokémon game

I was just not prepared for them to use an art style from 3DS’s first games for the Switch and charge more for it...
I’d have loved it if the games used the recent non-chibi art.
I think it’s a valid complaint that they’re using an art style which was used in older $40 games in a remake with more restricted Pokémon selection and lesser features and charge $60 for it.
The style looks more charming to me as I look at the trailer more.
I’m still forming my opinions for this game and they’re in a ‘subject to change at a moment’s notice’ stage currently.
Also, how can you call this a 1:1 version of Kanto? It's a trailer, you have no idea what extras could be available, in like the post-game, or even in the regular story. What the trailer showed so far is barely scratching the surface. This could turn out to be one of the greatest releases to date, and that has a lot to do with the capabilities of the Switch.
It’s a mainline game.I am confused because you guys are saying it is not a main series game, yet it is supposed to be similar to Yellow, which IS a main series game? Could someone elaborate?
You shouldn't have done this. It's so freaking hurting.
Same layout. Pallet town is still just 3 buildings for crying out loud. They even regressed back to grid based maps like in the old games when the Alola maps got rid of that.
Is that... south of Cerulean City, near the daycare?Guys...what route is this??

cause I'm kinda scared about this:

Because, in my opinion, they don’t want to use the term spinoff, or that it’s a new parallel series, because it’d have negative effect. They said that both the 2019 game and LGPE are ‘core games’ so I don’t see it as a cover up.
People just need to shut up and say thanks we got something this year after us/um last year, tbh i didn't think we gonna get anything in 2018 so i'm pleased with this.
if you don't like it don't buy it, you getting the real thing next year.

You know it’s hard to respect a game which has special quirks for your favourite Pokemon’s pre evolution, but they try their hardest to lock your favourite Pokémon out of the game (Raichu)...I just wish more people of the fandom would respect this game for the spirit of the game
Except the map comparison shown by @Icy Wind indicates that very less has changed, and all the things that could make Kanto more lively (151+ mons in the main game, Megas, Z-Moves, connection with SM/USUM) are absent.Kanto will always be same old Kanto, when it won't, this game could make Kanto enjoyable and more lively.
