Just about all merchandise is related to the anime. It is, after all, a show designed to sell merchandise. If merchandise of them is being released around that time, then they are likely going to appear in the anime before or around the time said merchandise is released.
The order doesn't matter.
And Mr. Mime not being considered part of the "main" team means Ash has 3 three available slots left for any combination of Riolu/Lucario, Grookey, Sobble, or whatever else.
Dragonite and Gengar don't mean the whole team is going to be Kanto.
With Pikachu...
There's nobody else who can get Grookey and Sobble. At least one has to go to Ash for marketing purposes.
Go isn't going to do anything with them, he doesn't battle.
Hawlucha wasn't treated like a Flying type. They even made a big deal about how it COULDN'T fly, it could only glide.
Hawlucha was for all intents and purposes a pure Fighting type. So it was really just 2 and even those 2 were very different.
The Riolu/Lucario evidence keeps piling up
I also see Go catching Morpeko to continue the trend of one of Ash's companions getting the generational Pikaclone.
Or hell, Go catching all three members of the Caterpie line, one of the lines that Ash has the most attachment to considering that it's the first Pokemon he caught himself AND the first one he released.
There are plenty of trainers WITHOUT aura that have Lucario. So Ash's aura abilities wouldn't need to be brought up when him and Riley are the only humans with aura in the first place.
Sword & Shield (the games) barely have a plot. Even if we got an anime actually based on them, it would still bare little resemblance to the games due to how little of a story they have.
Eevee always gets pushed, but anime-wise, Eevee has always been pretty insignificant, even when a main character got one.
- May got hers too late into BF for it to really do anything
- Same with Serena's, it didn't do much before evolving into Sylveon
- Sandy basically just promoted LGPE by...
Kantonian Mr. Mime is the popular one. Detective Pikachu boosted its popularity so the OLM wanted to take advantage of that with their own Mr. Mime.
Galarian Mr. Mime also isn't a mime. It's a tap-dancer.
