Why all the votes for Gen IV? It reignited interest in the series after a lackluster third effort (which gets my vote). While it's a little early, I should note V is also underwhelming, but only compared to the previous gen (which is second only to the original imo).

The reason behind the number of votes for Gen IVis the same as the reason you voted for Gen III. Just a difference of opinion.

The reason I voted Gen IV was despite the fact that Platinum came out around the release of the DSi, we had to wait an entire generation before they decided to take its WPA settings for WiFi.

An entire generation.

I could forgive Platinum for it due to being released so close to the DSi, but HgSs? No thank you.

Then there's also the lack of the Azure Flute event and NoA basically saying "thanks for the money, we don't care about you" in terms of My Pokemon Ranch upgrades.

For more HgSs specific disappointments, the Pokeathlon had a back story to it, yet they never explored it past the dialog of some people in the dome.

Oh and how it took them until HgSs to actually make a good touch screen interface for the menu.

Gen V, I'm mostly disappointed with the interface, including the Rotation battle where the rotation buttons are conveniently on the opposite side of the Pokemon you want to rotate, but nowhere near as big as Gen IV's disappointments.

Gen II, for the reuse of Kanto, too many recycled Pokemon (shoulda been more new ones), and the relatively low battery life of the cartridges. My much older Yellow Version still works, why not Gold? At least I have HeartGold, which is what Gen II should have been (at least regarding the Pokemon selection with the added evolutions).

Gen.III

It`s not a bad gen,it`s just my opinion. To prove it,first I`ll list good things in this generation.

First Gen.III introduced abilities,double battles,new evolution methods.
It also improved mechanics such as adding HM Dive.
Fire red/leaf green were quite good, too.

Now the things I don`t like.
Hoenn-This region doesn`t feel enough like Japan for me.It is also too tropical.

Garphics-The colors are too bright and intensive, there are no those beautiful pastel tones like in Gen.II and all later generations.
Pokemon sprite animations were removed.
Day/night cycle removed
New Pokemon-almost all of them have bad designs.

Gen IV

Wifi was very poorly implented, despite having so much potenial. GTS was basically broken thanks to people asking for stupid stuff. Trading with Pal Pad friends was clunky and not particularly useable, mainly due to the fact you couldn't trade out of your PC box. Battling had similar problems and there was a lack of variety in the types of battles offered. Pt and HG/SS at least expanded its use with the wifi Plaza, Battle recorder etc.

New Pokemon were very poor. In all honesty there was only 5 or 6 that I liked enough to actually use.

Sinnoh wasn't a bad region in particualar. Certainly better than Hoenn. But it wasn't anything special either. There's not really any area of Sinnoh I love visiting. Not particualrly enjoyable to hike around either thanks to Mt. Cornot slap bang in the middle.

And other than that, it didn't really add anything new. Yes, you could quite succesfully argue that wifi trading/battling has been a real revolution for the series, and I'm not saying it hasn't. But this was a hardware feature provided by Nintendo. It wasn't a invoation on Game Freaks part, and, (as said above) it wasn't one they capitilased on in the way they should. The physical/special split was a welcomed change, but apart from that I'm struggling to think of anything that really revolutionised the series in the way that other Gens have done

Sinnoh wasn't so good as Hoenn or Unova, but also wasn't the biggest disappointment. Johto was by far the shit in Pokémon franchise, IMO.

Why?

- Poor storyline
- Worst gym leaders
- Bad pokémon designs with some exceptions
- Team Rocket again? Stop with the "copy and paste"
- Bad soundtrack
- Lance is less charismatic and the worst champion
- The Elite Four wasn't that good
- Johto, in the anime, was also the worst part
- Except for Lugia, Johto had the worst legendaries
- Worst pokémon professor.

The best thing on Johto was Silver, the rival.

Sinnoh was good, because:

- Amazing evolutions to previously shit pokémon, like Tangela, Magmar, Electabuzz and Togetic. Licklicky was a disgrace
- Rhyperior
- Amazing Gym Leaders like Maylene, Gardenia and Candice
- Nice legendaries, with exception of the "elf trio". They are shit
- Nice player characters. Dawn and Lucas :D
- Very cool soundtrack
- Good graphical style.
- Good Elite Four, but not good as the Unova one
- BEST CHAMPION EVER. Cynthia > Lifes
- Best starters.
- Cyrus and the Galactics. I love them
- Distortion World

A generation doesn't need to revolutionize to be good.
And neither of them (Sinnoh and Johto) revolutionized.

Also with Generation II, a very minor gripe I have the lack of a Ground-type specialist. Two Fighting-type, two Psychic-type, two Poison-type, and two Dragon-type specialists but no Ground-type specialist.

Now I'm thinking of making an imaginary Ground-type E4 member, either by ousting Bruno (admittely, his lava room was cool....) or by ousting Janine and having Koga still a Gym Leader?

And what's up with Karen's team?
Sure, Vileplume and Gengar give type coverage, but there were already 5 Dark Types! Sneasel and underleveled Tyranitar say hi, lol. At least HGSS partially alleivated this problem.

I ALWAYS have to say Gen 3 for the fact that when I played it I didn't like it. The Hoenn games led to me quitting pokemon for a number of years. With that big of an impact i'm not sure how I coud vote for any other gen. To me, the Johto games did everything the Kanto ones did and more. There was so much more you could do. I expected the same for Hoenn, which is why i was crushed when I finally realizedd that there was no way to go back to Kanto or Johto. Its really not the games fault, but my own for expect that.

I haven't played the games since then, but looking back I can admit that overall Hoenn wasn't as bad as i thought it was then and i'm even looking forward to playing the games again. However, Hoenn still has to win for the biggest disappointment. The games weren't bad but they weren't what I thought they were going to be.

I still say Gen V. Its not my least favourite generation but its still the single greatest videogame related disappintment ever. Never before had Pokemon games been so hyped and yet so poor in comparison.

Gen 4 worst for me. (if were talking about just DPPt and not HgSs?)

Gen 2 is the best, and I will fight anyone says otherwise.....

hey, it's my 100th post....do I get a reward?

Congrats!

Mmm, 3rd gen. I will post back if you do.....
5th gen is most likely my favorite one right now...
I didn't like 3rd gen, it sort of killed pokemon for me..

Allow me to disagree with you, but Generation II was the worst to me. Generation IV is the third best.

Tie between Gen 2 [TRAINERS WERE SO DAMN WEAK IN THIS GAME!!!!!!] and Gen 4, music aside, there's not much else to do after this game :-(

Gotta agree with you there. People were acting as if these games were going to be the best of the best PLUS a little more. lol

Yeah, after you beat the League theres like nothing to do in Gen 4. If Gen 3 hadn't made me quit for a while I imagine that Gen 4 would have.

But they are the best.

I have to say Gen. II. I don't hate, but dislike pretty much all of the Pokémon introduced in that generation, except Ursaring, Ampharos, Aipom, the Totodile line, Espeon, and some other. I didn't play Pokémon back then, so I can't really tell about the new game mechanics.

The best one, in my opinion, was either Gen. III, because it introduced some of my favorite Pokémon and my first game was Emerald, or Gen. V, because everything is so original.

As someone who started with Blue back in the late 90s, I have to say Gen 3. Out of all the generations, I don't own any of the gen 3 games. I've played them before, but don't own them. They turned me off from the series almost for good until my friends got me into Diamond.

I didn't like the overworld graphics, the Pokemon were laughable and way too "in depth" compared to the simple ones from the previous 2 generations, and I just flat out didn't care for it.

Generations 3 and 5 are pretty much tied, both being at best far from worth the hype, and the original features and confinement to a region you can't even grow to like by a long shot. At least they (poorly) made an attempt to connect Gen 5 to the previous generation, something I can't say for the former. So, I guess that evens out with the fact that we got another pair of main series games on the same console the last one used. It's 50-50 for me. Didn't like most of the additions to the Pokemon family tree, either. (Especially the legendaries.)

Didn't appreciate the utter lack of evolutions from the previous generations, as well. Granted Gen 4 abused that way too much, but still, they're better off making at least a dozen or so than not having any at all.
