Why Do You Think Ash Never Evolved His Pokemons?

Why did ash never evolve his pokemon in the old series?

They were a high enough level and they were ready to evolve.

I notice in BR almost all of Ash's pokemon evolve.

Why did he not evolve them?

How would Ash "evolve them"? they evolve on their own, it happens when it happens
Also, it makes sense a beginner will have less evolved Poké and an expereinced trainer will have more of them

The writers get to decide what Pokemon they want to evolve not the fans.

Well, you have to consider that he was a brand new trainer at that time, so of course he wouldn't be skilled enough to raise or even handle a lot of evolved Pokemon. And in the anime, Pokemon tend to have more of a choice on whether or not they want to evolve.

The perfect example being Charizard.

Ash's pokemon evolve when they want to evolve - Ash can't force them to and nor does he want to. No clue why Squirtle never evolved(only speculation for this guy) but Bulbasaur and Pikachu made it very clear they did not want to evolve.

And honestly, people shouldn't be making this complaint anymore. The list of unevolved pokemon that can evolve is far smaller than his evolved ones at this point. Not including the BW pokemon, there's only Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Pikachu, Totodile, Buizel, Corphish and Gible - Those are the only ones that have not evolved whatsoever. Even back in Kanto, you had Butterfree, Charizard, Pidgeotto and Kingler - four evolved pokemon. Taurus cannot evolve. Muk was already evolved. Only Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Pikachu chose not to.

Does it really matter? Bulbasaur and Squirtle had no reason to evolve, and the Johto team was just handled badly in general.

We are not sure on why most of his pokes did not evolve back then, but ever since AG, most of Ash's pokes have evolved. There was a theory to why this was. Back in the day, Ash had to be the advocate of both strong and cute pokemon. When May and Dawn were around, the cute pokemon could be foisted on them, so now Ash could have a team of powerhouses. This makes me concerned for BW since we don't know if the cute pokemon have somewhere to go. That is if this theory is true. The notion also exists that now Ash took more of a mentor role, his pokemon were allowed to be more powerful. Unfortunately, right now, the anime is still in it's "How to Play Pokemon" mode. It won't be until later if they decide to have Ash show that he is experienced again. (We saw a bit of this in the gym eps) I can't really answer for the past, but right now, we know Ash's pokes are more likely to evolve, so this really shouldn't be a question anymore.

Some Pokemon don't want to evolve, can't force one to evolve that'd be wrong and that's the kind of person Ash is. He cares about his Pokemon's feelings and wants them to evolve cuz they want to. If your not like that, than your Paul.

Actually, contrary to popular belief, Ash did own a significant number of fully-evolved pokemon in the first series.

In fact, the only non evolved pokemon he had were Squirtle,Pikachu,Bullbasaur(these guys,in fact,didn't want t evolve at all),Totodile, Cyndaquill(Who recently evolved into Quilava) and Phampy(who evolved into Donphan during the Battle Frontier Arc).

Thank goodness his Pokemon get to develop more. I don't necessarily think it's imperative for all of Ash's Pokemon to evolve, just as long as they receive proper treatment (like personality, screen-time, and battles).

Really, Bulbasaur and Squirtle did not need to evolve. Bulbasaur even stopped itself, and Squirtle would lose its identity if it evolved.

Poketeen,wrong,it don't matter about the Gym battles since Totodile didn't have that many gyms that him to battle in and Totodile still had some good battles under his belt,he's not weak and he have shown to be strong.

Cyndaquil evolving to Quilava don't mean anything and that was to give Ash another evolve fire type and they didn't do it base on some of the fans anyways,the writers evolve pokemon when they get ready,Squirtle never shown any signs that it didn't want to evolve not that it had to,the only ones that didn't want to evolve was Pikachu and Bulbasaur.

In the Sinnoh region he's starting to get more serious with that, but it doesn't matter any more since the anime pretty much sucks now
