I wouldn't want to, either. I like to forget I'm playing a game, and there's something I find strangely depressing about when video game characters reach their peak. By that point, all individuality between different characters of the same class would be gone.
Oops, sorry for the misunderstanding. Well, speaking from my own experiences, to get the best ending, you need to fulfill tasks in certain Chapters and get all the special items. To get the last one, you need to finish Chapter 21 in less than 30 turns, and two particular characters must still be alive when you complete the Chapter. The second requirement isn't so bad, (you don't have to use those characters for the battle) but time limits always make me panic, there are tons of Wyvern Riders and Lords to stand in your way, and the boss is very strong. I worry I won't be able to complete it in time. On flip-side, destroying the many enemies can make the Chapter the most fun in the game. I like to put Lilina on the mountain, watch all the enemies fail miserably to hit her and get killed by her awesome magic. The music is also inspiring.
I hadn't heard of Nobunga's Ambition before, but I'm very interested to see how it plays. The first game on the NES is supposedly on the Wii Virtual Console, but I think I'll wait until the crossover game arrives. I don't except much from the RPGs from that era.
