Chain Fishing=Shiny Pokemon

This is by far the best discovery of X and Y. Water-types are some of my favorite Pokemon so this chain-fishing to get shinies is basically a dream come true.

This seems nice, and easier than pokéradar! But, does it work with the super rod only or is it possible to use the other rods also?

I caught a shiny magikarp with the old rod and using the good one for claunchers. It is possible with all the rods. :D

I doubt it's a glitch, as the fisherman in the shack tells you you can catch rarer Pokemon with consecutive fishing after beating his record.

You guys seem to have much better luck at chaining than I do. Even with an Inkay with Suction Cups in the lead my chains break around 20 because the pokes decide they don't feel like biting anymore.

I tried this with Poliwhirl, but I ended up getting lots of Basculins instead. What am I doing wrong?

Oh, I didn't realize It wasn't the same pokemon every time like with the Poke-radar. Incidentally, I'm having this problem with the Poke-radar. Help?

I can confirm this as well. Went to Azure bay, found a nice, big rock in the middle of the ocean (doesn't have to be on the edge) and kept fishing. After around 76 attempts (whew!) I finally caught a shiny Alomomola. So pretty...

Anyways, I'll probably try again somewhere else later, but right now? 76 consecutive encounters (plus another 30 where I messed up the chain and moved) later, I'm all fished out. xD

Got my first shiny Basculin. May not be the pokemon of choice but at least i know I'm doing it right. Now to get back to finding that gosh darn shiny eevee.

Update: WOOOOOO shiny dratini after only 2 fish sessions!!!!

I got my first Consecutive Fishing Shiny: a male Relicanth, Level 35, Swift Swim, Quiet nature.

Yes, I know. It's not that good, but beggars can't be choosers.

I have a theory that, unlike Pokeradar, the chances of finding a shiny drop off after a certain point.

It seems like a majority of people are finding pokemon in the 20-40 range, but some people are going far beyond that and not finding anything. Sure, sometimes the random number generator is a cruel mistress, but maybe we should entertain the thought.

My first pokemon was a shiny basculin, caught in attempts to find a Dratini of any kind. That whole chain, I found out later, was 48. So that was probably around the high thirty mark.

I found a shiny gyarados within 30 encounters.

I had a long chain of 107 and no shiny Clauncher or Horsea.

Has anyone been keeping track of their encounters more closely?

I just caught a nice shiny Shellder after a grueling hour and 20 minutes of catch and release :)dizzy:).
I also caught a shiny Whiscash the other day, but it only took 3 encounters and it was during a training session.

I've caught 8 Shinies so far with this method. 3 Skrelp, 2 Remoraid, 2 Poliwag and 1 Corphish. I've made it my goal to try to get a Shiny of almost every fishable Pokémon in Y. I might even try to catch a Shiny Magikarp and train to level 100, since I already have two Shiny Gyarados :p

Oh yes, my record is 119. Took me a while to find out that the chain resets again after encountering a Shiny though @__@

I want to catch a shiny magikarp and I tried fishing for one at Parfum Palace, but you can't surf there? Will it still work if I'm fishing from land?
