Advertising the Gym leaders in shadows is the same thing they did with putting the Brains in shadows in the Battle Frontier openings.

You can't do that with coordinators because:

a) The writers probably haven't planned out what coordinators to create yet, whereas the Gym leaders are from the games.

b) Putting coordinators as shadows is like...stupid. Coordinators are flamboyant metrosexuals or cute girls, not super strong trainers.

c) Hikari isn't as important as Ash is, obviously Ash is going to get the bigger focus, just like he did in AG.

d) Nozomi only got like 1 second in the opening whereas Shinji gets a whole segment, its no difference than this.

Well, I must mention that the next FORMAL contest is in Sonou Town, and the one in DP22 is just kind of a celebration activity held by a village in Route 204, so I think 30 minutes is enough for Hikari to give Pachirisu a chance to practice before the Sonou Conference.
