Preview JN065: Dragon Battle! Satoshi VS Iris!!

Although I’m happy Iris is returning, I find it ridiculous how people are jumping to conclusions about Iris being the champion. I mean sure Iris has the same champion outfit she had in the games, but outfits aren’t really a strong determination of what trainer class someone is. Also, I was a bit annoyed at the preview when I saw Iris’ Dragonite supposedly getting clobbered by Ash’s Dracovish (I love Dracovish, but still). It just gave me the wrong impression of Iris still suffering from some setbacks.

Also, I hear that Ash & Iris’ Dragonite are going to battle. If Iris’ Dragonite loses, I would be disappointed.

The special trailer also showed Dracovish battling Iris's Dragonite, but we don't know if it was before or after Ash's Dragonite.

I know I mentioned that battle, but it looked as though Iris’ Dragonite took a super effective hit from Dracovish’s supposed ice fang attack. That’s why I said it was supposedly losing.

Eh. Iris' Dragonite proved it has big "idc" energy when it comes to Ice-type moves, as we saw with Dawn's Mamoswine. I still can't get over that, haha.

I just don’t see Ash winning this. Scrap any mention of Iris being the supposed Champion, the only title we should be concerned with here is “Dragon Master”. With her training from Cynthia and Clair, and probably Drayden at this point, she would have had immense conditioning and tutorage of Dragon-types. It would be complete disregard/slap in the face if Iris lost to a team composed of the types she’s specialised with for ages.

I think the upcoming battle will go as follows:
  • Both Dragonites fight each other for a period of time.
  • Ash realizes that his Dragonite is no match for Iris' so he switches Dragonite for Dracovish.
  • Dracovish defeats a fatigued Dragonite (Dragonite looked pretty beat when Dracovish threw it)
  • Iris sends out her last Pokemon (let's say it's Haxorus) and Ash switches for Dragonite again.
  • Dragonite gets its butt handed to itself, and Ash is forced to use Dracovish again.
  • Dracovish almost loses, but uses an absolutely vicious Fishious Rend and barely defeats Haxorus.
  • Ash makes it into the Hyper League.
  • Cue flashback to Bea, or a reference to her at least.

I know this is a dragon fight but i really want to see gengar in action. I just remembered that ash had a gengar and i want to see it fight more.

This layout in my opinion relies way too much on putting Dragonite down just to show Dracovish perform well. We are talking about the same Dragonite which was able to take on Mienshao (although damaged) and Korrina's Mega Lucario when 2 out of 3 of its moves are resisted against it.
It makes no sense for Dragonite to be out against two Pokémon and to perform badly against them both, specially if it can get a dragon dance in.

This battle will definitely be fun to watch, and the reason for Dragonite being my favourite Pokemon is thanks to its very diverse move-set.

Ash’s Dragonite has Hurricane, Dragon Claw, Dragon Dance and Hyper Beam
Iris’ Dragonite, the last time we saw it, had
T-Punch, Ice Beam, Dragon Rush and Flamethrower

There’s so many possibilities for this. I hope they don’t let us down like Gallade v Sirfetch’d.

You think that Ash loses that Iris does the same as Bea? Bah! foolishness.

No, I think that if Ash wins this episode, he'll think of fighting Bea again soon since he promised to meet her again when he reaches Hyper Class. I don't think he'll be going into a slump.

Why are we going to believe Ash will be lost in a future episode? Did that really tell you? That does not predict the future, nor is it true.
