No. In Japan, it's a common stereotype for gay men to be extremely effeminate, down to their speech patterns. Not sure if he(?) is gay or not, but his personal pronoun is "atashi" a pronoun always used by females, which implies Harley is a trans woman.
Well, they could portray other members of the LGBTQ community, like for instance having a CotD who uses nonbinary pronouns for the whole episode. It doesn't have to be through romance.Pokemon isn't romance-driven
Problem is, many of these "stereotypical gay men" ("okama") are actually transwoman.No. In Japan, it's a common stereotype for gay men to be extremely effeminate, down to their speech patterns.
Having other members of the LGBT community (in terms of gender expression) have already been brought up, so I'm not gonna touch on that right now.Pokemon isn't romance-driven, so I am not sure what it is they can do other than the likes of Harley and Zoey. Same-sex parents just for the sake of it?
Does Zoey really count though? With Harley it was pretty explicit but with Zoey, there really wasn’t anything pointing that way. Sure she wore her hair short and her contest outfits were mostly suits but that kinda feels like stereotyping a tomboy as LGBT, especially when nothing about her personality or interactions with others even pointed that way.Pokemon isn't romance-driven, so I am not sure what it is they can do other than the likes of Harley and Zoey. Are you referencing the same-sex partnership program in Tokyo? It's a step in the right direction for sure, but it's not nearly as inclusive as it seems to be. It's also important to note that that system only applies to Tokyo, and most of Japan is much more conservative than its major cities. The hurdles that rural Japan is really going to have to jump thru until same-sex marriage is even brought up in a serious discussion is definitely going to be a challenge.Well it seems that the issue of gay marriage is recently being addressed in japan. So, it is possible that, over time, there will be greater representation of the LGBTQ+ community in anime. However, I believe that initially it will continue to be more indirect or superficial.
