Are you being serious? Nobody mentioned Misty whatsoever when all the past Water Gym leaders appeared like Juan, Crasher Wake, or Wallace. Why would this time be any different?

Misty has NEVER been shown in flashbacks ANY time we've had a new water oriented character show up. In fact nobody even mentioned Misty when the gang saw a Togepi again or Dawn got a Togekiss. Its clearly obvious the writers don't do things like this.

Because Their is a chance that Shizui might friend with Misty's Sister like Damian and he know Misty when she was younger !
Plus All those other gym leader case , Ash didn't talk about other Water pokemon but he might talk about other water pokemon trainer he met when he watch's Shizui Battle !
Since Ash met more Water pokemon trainer then he met ther type specialist !
Specially he has 3 friend who doesn't know about his Jotho journey !
There always a chance !

If Misty was going to make a cameo in the near future I would expect the animators to promote it, maybe not say her name directly but at least say something like: "Ash's old friends will return to participate in the Junior Cup". They already made a big deal of Cynthia coming back and the old pokemon.

And everyone is right, the next batch of episodes leading up to the Unova league have already been promoted. We're not going to see Misty in 2012 at the least.

There has been minor speculation suggesting an appearance based on the possibility of an event involving gym leaders, and there have been some episodes revealed, not all. Nothing as of yet has outright denied the possibility, nor have news leaks mentioned every single event in BW2. New episodes within the saga are still being written as we speak. Therefore it is still too early to jump to conclusions.

With the confirmation that the Unova league will take place 3 months from the time Ash wins his 8th badge, coupled with all these BW2 episodes we know about already, it pretty much fills roughly the 3 month gap before the writers send Ash back to the league.

We already know of 3 episodes:

- Cynthia and Meoletta debuts
- Dawn returns
- Iris and Dawn separated in an Onix Island episode

This, likely coupled with the 4-episode Junior tournament, along with the likely 2 parter for the genie legends, a TR plot, and a Dragonite episode...already take up much of the 3 months.

I imagine once Ash returns to do the Unova league, once again the league will be the usual 7-8 episodes. After that we don't know what will happen, but by then we'll be in 2013. By simply order of math and process of elimination, we know that no old character other than Dawn will be in the episodes for the remainder of the year.

Im not surprised if Misty doesn't return for Junior Cup or before UNova league for that matter. Adter all like i said upcoming tournament is likely just prologue to something bigger.

There are no enough new gym leaders to carry on Ash gym quest for another year after UNova. Homioka and Shizui are pretty much it. There is no Battle Frontier or similar alternate quest so chances for anime not staying only on Junior Cup are pretty good i say.
Especially when aforementioned Cup is reserved mainly for Unova characters and Dawn, with there not being enough space for Misty now.

However in future its a whole another game, with Misty having reasonably good chance to come for some extended visit focusing on her development and further progrss in career of becoming water pokemon master.
Writers have to fill up remaining time after Unova league with something to continue for anime to carry on before release of new games. And only available thing to use from BW 2 games and adequately promote is concept of world tournament , which could be in anime divided in several tournaments for which older gym leaders could return later on with purpose of promotion.

So if Misty is planned to return in 2013, logic dictates it would be way too early for writers to start throwing hints or hype things up already.So whether there are plans to bring her back or not, we wont really know until end of this year being too soon to jump with conclusions.

Argument how Misty hasnt't been showed for long time doesn't change anything. Someone could easily argue how they are doing this on purpose to create higher hype and bigger surprise when long absent character finally returns being saved for something special. Time when her return would make most sense both from advertizing and story standpoint.

If anything chances will always exist being too popular and iconic as original female to end up erased forever. Demand for return is huge having many fans, writers left her story unfinished not prociding closure to goal, dreams etc having window of opportunities for Misty return to do continuation and there doesn't exist any reason to stop her from coming back in reality.

Maybe because writers like to break patterns to bring more enjoyment and twist to show. Unexected things keep anime fresh.

Also Wallace wasn't gym leader anymore in anime, coming for water based contest competition. Since MIsty isn't coordinator but trainer, its not so much strange that she wasn't mentioned.

^Why not? Yeah, the AG outfit would do just fine, but if they wanted to give her an HGSS-esque outfit, all they'd need to do is make it small enough to fit.

The HGSS outfit was designed for an older Misty in the games. Since the anime characters don't age, she would never get that outfit in the show.

Likewise Misty's one-sided ponytail is very iconic to the anime character, I doubt they would ever change her hairstyle to match that look she has in HGSS. Of course I don't think she'll be appearing in BW2 for the time being, so the point is moot.

It would be interesting to see an outfit with a similar white and a little blue color scheme though the next time Misty appears, even if they stick with the one she has now. And no, I don't think they shouldn't change the hairstyle either.

How many times do we have to say that the Junior cup doesn't feature Gym leaders returning? The whole thing is probably going to be only 4 episodes long, the same length as the Don battle tournaments.

We know Cynthia, Caitlin, Dawn and a new rival for Ash will be there, that's probably enough. Especially since Iris and Cilan might enter too. This is not a big tournament like the games.

I'm gonna make my answer much simpler by quoting myself from the Dawn thread. "In my current experience on forums, I hear people complain that old characters wouldn't be relevant to new audiences, but in reality the same is true for every new character that walks through the doors of each generation. Both kinds require time to become relevant for any new audience; for fans to grow accustomed to them and discover what makes them unique and interesting. Nothing is truly holding the writers back from doing one or the other, or any combination in between. Fandom bias is the only thing that discourages some options over others, and if I may, is more discriminating than encouraging."

And Gliscor'd, I hate to break it to ya, but there's really not very much we actually know 100% about that tournament or it's length. You're going to need more evidence that the length is, in fact too short to include gym leaders, even Misty. I'm not going to declare what I think is more likely without evidence myself, but I can safely say that anything is possible at this time.
