Okay, on my laptop, I don't have Microsoft Office. Instead, I have OpenOffice, thanks to my parents.

Anyways, back on topic:
Whenever I try to open an old document like, say, a book report that I was going to print or part of a project. But when I open a document, Open Office freezes up, and I have to shut down my computer. It works normally when I make a new document, though. It's just when I open an old document. I have NO viruses on my computer, it has a good 1 GB of RAM, is 32-bit, and has an Intel Atom in it.

What's going on? :conangry:

What version of OpenOffice are you using? You might try updating it, if you haven't in a while.

Also, if possible, try opening up some of those files on another computer, both in OpenOffice and in Word, just to see if the file is corrupt.
How are the files saved? Are they .doc (97/XP compatible) or some other file type?

Openoffice blows. Try using MS office, it's like over 9000 times better.

No, I have not updated it, and I don't really know how to update it. How do I do it?

(Oh yes: And I don't have a flashdrive, so I can't put it on another PC)

EDIT: My version of OpenOffice is 3.1

And I save them as Word documents, because it is OenOffice's very few choices.

When you start the programme, it'll say what version you're using--if you not using OpenOffice 3, just go to their website and download it.
If you don't have access to a flashdrive, e-mail the document to another computer.

You can also try the help forums at OpenOffice's webiste: http://support.openoffice.org/

@inverness, I went to OpenOffice's support page, but it contains a zillion hard-too-read words on it.And I can't e-mail my documents to another computer, my parents would think I'm wacko.

What else should I do?
