Pokémon Horizons General Discussion/Speculation Thread

You seriously try way too hard to be a contrarian. You just throw out any random nonsense that goes against popular educated guesses, trying to see what will get the biggest reaction out of people. PWC is old news and it would make absolutely no sense to have two NEW trainers compete with champions.

There’s just no way to make Gyms work in a world traveling saga except if they did some kind of “world league” with Gyms scattered across all the regions. Except that would fundamentally be the same concept as the PWC, only it would be structured like a traditional league. And besides, them having the Paldea starters as their main partners basically confirms that they’ll be gone once the next generation hits so that there’s no problem with having them compete against Champions.

I don't know why you think it's impossible to make Gyms work in a world tour format. I can't say it's a guarantee when we don't know anything about Riko and Roy's goals or anything about them for that matter, but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities at least. Going to a Gym in Paldea every once in awhile would not go against the world traveling aspect of the series. If anything, it would give the series some structure and still allow for them to do something more with Paldea, something they desperately needed to do with Galar during Journeys.

There is a pretty huge problem with having them compete against Champions. It was arguably already stretching the suspension of disbelief for Ash to defeat Champion level trainers even with his skills and experience. Having brand new rookie trainers climb up the ranks of the PWC to do the same thing that Ash couldn't do for decades would be way too difficult to believe. It would be fitting more with how Champions work in the games as effectively the final boss for players, but within the context of the anime, it would be way too unbelievable. Not to mention just repeating the PWC right after they rushed through it with Ash sounds boring. Yeah, giving them the Paldea starters guarantees that they'll be gone by the start of the next generation, but I don't think that means it would be believable to see them compete against Champions.

It just puts all the action in one region instead of all the regions. If you want to do the region hopping storyline, you need to give characters goals that involve all the regions, not just one. Because you might as well not have a region hopping storyline at all and instead have a series solely focused on Paldea.

You don't think there's going to be plot happening in the other 8 regions?

They can still have other action going on in other regions. Gym battles in Paldea wouldn't take away the fact that they can still travel through different regions and meet other characters and Pokemon. Besides that, I don't see the harm in having more focus on the newest region even in a series with a world tour format. Aside from Galar, all of the other regions have gotten a chance to shine and I don't think that the idea of having two new characters traveling across the world is so vital that they can't possibly take some time to go to Gyms in Paldea. For all we know, traveling around the world could be part of the Treasure Hunt, assuming that they go to the school from Scarlet/Violet, and they decide to try out Gyms in Paldea in-between their world tour adventures.

There might, but they would all play second fiddle to Paldea. It would basically be a Paldea anime with occasional appearances by the other eight regions.
I do not see the problem with that. Honestly, that should have been the case with Galar in Journeys too. Almost every other region has been featured prominently in the anime and we just finished another series with a world tour format. I don't think people would be crushed to see Paldea getting more special treatment over the other regions. We don't really need more random filler episodes set in Kanto or for the other regions to continue being bland backgrounds.

It really is not. Its just being made out to be a problem by 1 person because they say so and won't budge on it. Most of us want Paldea to get more focus and not get the treatment Galar got. Quite honestly, if this really is spread across all regions, the other regions should play second fiddle to Paldea. One of my big issues with Journeys was how Galar got shafted. Journeys is over and we haven't even seen half of Galar's Pokemon, characters, and locations. We STILL do not know much, but if they do repeat the world tour format, Paldea at least should get more focus than Galar got. They have a chance to fix the format if they are doing it.

I will say if either of them do, do the gym challenge, they are more free to become champion than ash was untill gen 7.
Both because this is likely their only series, and because Paldea canonically has multiple champions rather than it being just the one person. So they wouldn't be like, replacing a game characters role or anything.

I believe that it won't solely take place in Paldea. I believe that this saga will be another world traveling saga.

I personally think that if they do another world travelling saga, this series is gonna flop big time... cuz we just got that and i believe it was a concept not everyone throughly enjoyed and having it in 2 series back-to-back is gonna be boring as well.. cuz we just had it. Its better for them to focus only on Paldea, especially since we still need to know the personalities of the new protags.

Like... i personally want to check this series out... but if its another world travelling saga... i am gonna tune out very fast.

Paldea, unlike Galar, has so much going on, it'll be a shame and a waste to shove all of it into random 10 episodes instead of dedicating the entire series to it.

Besides, the series begins in April and if we assume that the next gen will come out in 3 years, the new series will be much shorter that the average 3 year series. Focusing on other regions would be silly.

unlike Galar,
Hard disagree. Galar had so, so much that could benefit from being featured in the anime full-time. They could’ve shown Ash deal with the region's philosophy of winning, sponsorships and commercialisation of battles conflicting with a more free spirited Ash and much more. Much like how Alola's cultural themes were incorporated into the series, Galar can easily explore many new aspects of the Pokémon world. Propping up one region by putting one down really isn’t needed.

I agree with you it's unlikely they will use the Gyms if they mantain the region hopping format. It's more likely they will invent a new goal that involves all Pokemon World.

However, another PWC is a big jump from that. It seems unlikely the writers would make Liko and Roy fights Champions when theu're starting.

I think people are looking too deep into across the wide world tagline thing. What is Paldea known for? Open World. What do the protagonists have on their team? Paldea starters.
I don't think we are following Paldea storyline.

In the trailer, all starters appear. We don't know the exact context, but it seems Lico and Roy will choose the Paldea starters there.

What is Paldea known for?
A shiny Rayquaza, apparently.

I'm trying to not buy into the whole region-hopping thing too much, but I feel like that and the appearance of the other starters at least imply the involvement of other regions. To what extent, we don't know yet, but hopefully it's not as much as in Journeys.

To be fair, if any generation is going to be longer it's this one, 4 years would make the next gen land on the 30th anniversary. And even if gamefreak don't actually concider things as gens I am sure they can realise that next reigon is the 10th original mainline reigon.
