Pokemon Legends: Arceus General Discussion

I'm a bit mad they ripped off Final Fantasy X a bit cause I wasn't the biggest fan of that game's combat system.

A Pokémon that’s close with people and helps make their lives possible

In the Hisui region, Stantler can evolve into Wyrdeer. This Pokémon has been treasured since long ago by the people of this region, for whom it is indispensable. It grows much larger when it evolves, and garments with the fur shed from its beard, tail, and legs are highly prized for their top-notch protection against the cold.

It emits psychic energy from the orbs on its antlers

Using the black orbs at the bases of its antlers, this Pokémon generates and unleashes psychic energy powerful enough to distort space. Wyrdeer searches out safe paths by using its antlers like antennae, running at the head of its herd and leading young Stantler.

With Cyrus' ancestor being present (And Rowan's), I kind of only really expect Barry/Palmer's and Cynthia's. Cynthia's seems like a guarantee for a future trailer.

Any other ancestors are just "Oh, cool." but hopefully those two still make it in in some form.

EDIT: Add RIley's ancestor that list too. I think it would be cool if you could see the beginning traces of people wielding and controlling aura in this game.

I'll take your entire stock.

Battling together with the mournful souls of its comrades

Basculin in the Hisui region can evolve into this Pokémon. This Evolution occurs when a Basculin is possessed by the souls of other Basculin from its school that could not withstand the harsh journey upstream. Basculegion fights together with these souls, which attack opponents as if with a will of their own.

Tremendous, unflagging physical ability

The moment this Pokémon senses animosity, it will become enraged and attack relentlessly until the enemy is defeated. This Pokémon gains power from the souls possessing it, letting it swim on and on without tiring.

A solitary bird Pokémon that flies in from the north in winter

When Rufflet in the Hisui region evolve, they become Hisuian Braviary. In the winter, this Pokémon flies in from somewhere farther north. It’s larger than the previously discovered form of Braviary and tends to live alone rather than in flocks.

Shock waves of psychic power

Hisuian Braviary can imbue its eerie screeches with psychic power to generate powerful shock waves. It then uses its sharp talons to tear at and seize prey weakened by these shock waves. Apparently, it can also use its psychic power to sharpen its sixth sense and enter a trance that boosts its physical abilities.

So... we have seen Red Striped Basculegion. I wonder if Blue Striped will look different

Another interesting thing to note is that Rufflet won't get a regional form it seems.
Eh, I imagine Basculin evolves from a new form, like in Galar. Magenta stripe or something.

We went through this with SwSh, they didn't specify that the Farfetch'd that Sirfetch'd evolves from was a new variant and so a lot of folks assumed it evolved from Kantonian Farfetch'd. If they don't specify a region, they're potentially talking about any version of that Pokemon, in a new or existing form.

So yeah, I'm saying new Basculin, new Stantler. Probably not a new Rufflet, but it's possible.

The only problem that comes up with the regional forms being in Hisui and not in Sinnoh, is how are they gonna adress this in BDSP. There still need to be traces for them, especially since you can get Stantler in Platinum and Pearl using Pokéradar.
I was thinking about that too. Really would suck to introduce these new forms only for them to be extinct in the present day.

This thing has no right being this ominous.

Since you apparently have to capture each pokemon multiple times, maybe the evolution requires you to catch/defeat multiple Basculin.

Commander Kamado - Ancestor of Professor Roawn
Akari & Rei - Ancestors of Lucas & Dawn?
Captain Cyllene - Ancestor of Cyrus?

Something tells me Cynthia's ancestor will definitely be another important character in these games...

Well, finally the concept of Pokemon attacking humans directly was realized. Also, lol at the fake notion that there wasn't going to be ancestors for the characters of the present Sinnoh region.

Wow. There's a lot to take in with what was shown this morning with regards to this game. I think the biggest takeaway is obviously that they are finally putting some effort in to changing the core gameplay of the series. Whereas before we saw core elements with a bit of change, I think that the Pokemon Presents showed us that this is a big change, with a hint of core elements.

The biggest feature that I think is getting under-noticed is the fact that Pokemon will react differently to you based on their traits! This is a really cool feature that adds to the strategy of the gameplay in how you approach and capture the Pokemon.

The game clearly takes elements from multiple others: the Pokemon interacting with the world and forcing you to react based on their behavior (Pokemon Snap), incentivizing players to go back and recapture more of the same species of Pokemon (Pokemon GO), a "mission" structure with tasks given to you via a centered hub town (Monster Hunter). All of these blended together seem to lead us toward a pretty unique experience, IMO.

One of the biggest criticisms I've seen so far is that the impact of these changes would have been better felt with an entire region of new Pokemon to capture. While I agree that's a decent argument, I think that because the gameplay is such a major change from what most fans know it as, it needs to have some familiarity for people to grasp. Maybe if the gameplay sticks, we might see this as the new style of gameplay for Generation 9.

There will be trading involved, maybe because you won't be able to pick the other two starters later? However, I don't expect online battles to be a thing, mainly because the point of the game is to explore the surrounding wilds.
