Can anyone explain exactly how Pokemon Adventures is being ran in Japan right now? As I understand it, there are more than one storyline being published weekly, I think the XY and ORAS chapters.

So, what magazine(s) are running them, or am I missing something obvious?

Pocket Monsters Special is currently running in two places with new chapters coming out on a monthly basis.

CoroCoro Ichiban!, not to be confused with the similarly titled CoroCoro Comics, is a magazine that comes out on the 21st of every month. One chapter of the X&Y storyline is printed in every issue. Each issue is around 800 yen.

The ORAS storyline is currently running on Club Sunday, a website run by Shogakuan, the publisher of pretty much all Pocket Monsters related manga. The chapters are all free to read but older ones get removed as newer ones are added so you have to check in regularly to avoid missing a chapter.

Both the X&Y storyline and the ORAS storyline are later collected into graphic novels. X&Y Volume 4 came out in December and ORAS Volume 2 is coming out later this month.

Are they still being numbered according to the original order? as in, will X&Y vol. 4 be renumbered to like vol. 50-something later?

Right now they're using their own separate numbering system. If they waited until the proper graphic novel releases to collect these chapters then it'd probably be 2019 or so before we got our first ORAS volume.

These X&Y / ORAS volumes are really just the magazine versions collected into a book; they don't contain any of the art touch-ups / additional content found in the proper graphic novel releases. They're also missing the chapters from Pokemon Fan, a magazine that Pocket Monsters Special used to run in before they stopped running it at the end of 2014. A regular numbered graphic novel release will presumably address all that.

The current XY and ORAS releases are just meant to tide us over until the proper graphic novels come out.
