Pokémon World Government

Re: Pokemon World Government

if politics came into pokemon, then they would have to explain why a ten year old could take down an entire mafia in a week, while at the same time justifying paying police officers that never have more than a level 22 growlith. or why a trained member of the military (Lt. Surge) could be easily defeated by ten year olds, or why a known member of the mafia holds a powerfull position in the pokemon league (Giovani). you would almost think that the government itself was run by ten year olds.

The things you mention have all been cited as reasons why the government of the nation (if indeed there is a central government) must be weak.

As for Lt. Surge, I doubt that he used Pokemon to fight in the war. His dialogue in Red/Blue tells us that, "during the War", he used his Electric Pokemon to power his planes, which on at least one occasion saved his life. This does not imply that he used Pokemon in combat, so there's no reason to assume that well-trained Pokemon are required to become a lieutenant in the American military.

As for Giovanni's presence in the Pokemon League, this can be explained by the League turning a blind eye to his affiliation with Team Rocket. Maybe they were afraid of him, or maybe they didn't care.

explain why a ten year old could take down an entire mafia in a week

How do you know it was a week? It may have only been a few days for you but It could have been any number of months in the game. And I can't remember it ever saying you're a 10 year old outside of the anime. I like to think my little protagonist is leaving home at the ripe age of 18 =]

while at the same time justifying paying police officers that never have more than a level 22 growlith.

The Policeman are normally very young looking aren't they? Perhaps they are rookie to the force and are being assigned to night watches on routes where nothing ever happens =P It might not be their Growlithe at all. The station might have all sorts of powerful Pokemon back at the station for more important assignments.

or why a trained member of the military (Lt. Surge) could be easily defeated by ten year olds

I've always thought Gym Leaders have a whole bunch of Pokemon and they choose them depending on their challenger so that they're difficult to defeat, but not impossible. Like how when you verse Brock in RBY he's only got around level 15 Pokemon, but then in GSC he's up in the 60's right?

or why a known member of the mafia holds a powerfull position in the pokemon league (Giovani).

This seems to make the Pokemon world all the more realistic. Mafia mob bosses have a lot of powerful positions in the real world. But the cops can never pin anything on them because they keep their hands clean.

Re: Pokemon World Government

its run by the pokemon league for each area with the gym leaders being the "mayor" or "senator" of the cities for those cities that dont have a gym they are controlled by the closest gym.

Re: Pokemon World Government

You know, In all reality, the pokemon centers should have charged (irl). You should be 20, instead of ten in order to go out, and I believe that some sort of large government as was said would be responsible for the money management. Obviously they hired the gym leaders and gave them money to hand out to trainers when they won...! I dunno, haha!

Re: Pokemon World Government

I believe that the government is run by trainers; the Leagues being the highest. Remember in the R/S manga, with the Gym leaders arguing over Magma and Aqua. Overall, the Elite Four groups and Champions decide over matters- such as criminal justice to said teams. Or, you know, the problems just all die out.

Re: Pokemon World Government

I get the feeling that after Generation 4 in both the anime and games they might bring in more members of the government and law enforcement like the International Police, along with the possiblity of increasing their activity a little bit. In both the games and anime, it was kinda rare to see criminals being arrested until Generation 4 came out, with

Looker arresting Team Galactic in both the games AND the anime. In the TG anime finale, all three Commanders except Charon are arrested and escorted by a bunch of squad/police cars. Not to mention all those policemen/policewomen that were seen in Losing its Lustrous and Double Team Turnover, the latter episode being the first time I've seen that many law enforcement people in the anime so far.

Re: Pokemon World Government

What the heck, i dont care at all about that stuff. and if i start talking about it then it's gunna make me feel like a dork.:dumb:

Re: Pokemon World Government

oh geez. i never got this technical with the pokemon world. sure, i played with a court system and the pokemon training systematics. but pokemon politics? whew, too much to think about. i can't even understand the politics in my own country much less invent the politics of an imaginary world full of humans and super powered sentient animals.

And then of course there's the manga in which most of Johto's elite trainers are corrupt =/

Re: Pokemon World Government

I wouldn't recommend Pokemon to mingle with the subject of politics. Gross! You wouldn't want them to play it dirty. It's enough that there would be mayors, police officers, gym leaders, professors, etc. But come to think of it, organizations like Team Rocket and Team Galactic are somewhat like the Mafia in real life and there's no one in the Pokemon world to have the authority to put them directly to jail. Perhaps the Officer Jennys but they really don't have trial courts as well....

[they can't just expect Ash to save them all the time. LoL]

You know what, the show is "Pokemon" not Pokemon Politics Special. Well, they targeted kids to watch not unemployed adults or politicians, ey? ^o^

They just want to show the bad people not too bad, in kids shows they always show the bad guys just like crazy villains or something... it will be really crude to show what a mafia really do (kill people, sell drugs, stole money from the inside of aparentelly innocent organizations), it would be like a super heroe kids show where the villains are serial killers or something like that, no, they´re just morons that make crazy evil plots to take over the world...

If they start putting some politics and other adult things to pokemon it will become the law and order or CSI... and the kids do not want that, they want a show where children set up on great adventures and adults are useless most the times, viva la children! xD

Re: Pokemon World Government

I can't help but wonder if Pokemon is the same world we live in, except with pokemon replacing the (seemingly) absent animals.

On replaying LeafGreen, I've found two references to countries independent of Japan. The first is America, where Lt. Surge is referred to as "The Lightning American!". The second is in the 6th floor of Silph Co., where one of the betraying scientists mentions that he betrayed Silph because his boss ordered him to some place called Tiski Branch. After beating him, he commented:

"TIKSI BRANCH? It's in Russian no-man's-land".

Considering that we now have Russia and America in this world, in at least some small form, I think that pokemon is meant to represent the regular world. It would follow that the governments are meant to be regular governmentsb - ambiguous.

Re: Pokemon World Government

Also, if you've forgotten, they've done almost a whole episode in California. Remember, it's the one where meowth's past is explained? If you don't remember/haven't seen it, it's called "Go West Young Meowth".

Re: Pokemon World Government

One thing I like about Pokemon is how minimalist the government appears to be. We conservatives are actually for less government, we are about the bond between human beings. It is the social retards (cough)Misty(cough) who need formal regulation.

Re: Pokemon World Government

Since pokemon is based on mystical creatures, not a specific country or governemt, so the developers most likely didnt put in a government in pokemon.

Re: Pokemon World Government

i agree with you. and just because im new dont underestmate me people!

Re: Pokemon World Government

^? What? Underestimate you? I don't even know your reputation.

If there actually was going to be a real complete world gov, it would probably be shown in one of the movies.
