PLOT
“You have the potential. I can give you the power to fight them. I can make you into a magical warrior.”
Hidden away from mortal eyes, the world contains a danger that humanity cannot see. The youma, creatures born of dark magic and humanity’s dark, entropic desires, prowl the shadows of the city and the souls of men. Their victims are devoured, ripped from reality itself and never seen again. However, the city is not without defenders. There are creatures born of brighter magic and purer emotion, the familiars, who recruit girls and boys with magical potential to fight the youma. They must become magical warriors to defend the city and the people they love. It is a dangerous task, but it is not without rewards. Each fully grown youma yields an Oblivion Seed, and a magical warrior who gathers thirteen seeds will be granted a wish...
RULES
☆ No god-modding, powergaming or meta-gaming.
These are Bad Things and you will very likely Really Annoy the other players if you try and pull them.
God-modding; Also known as 'god-mode' - ascribing actions, thoughts or speech to another person's character without prior permission from the player. Autohitting in fights and such also falls under this (see powergaming).
Meta-gaming: To give or use information gained OOCly that characters did not learn ICly. This is especially bad if the information is something the character couldn't possibly know or that they use to their advantage. Please remember that OOC information is not always immediately IC information.
Power gaming: Related to god-modding. Either playing an extremely overpowered character, especially in a way that hinders other players. Pulling new powers out of nowhere, always winning fights and such.
☆ We're a literate RP!
This means that we expect posts from our players that go into details about the thoughts and feelings of their characters as well as their actions. We also expect you to have a good grasp of grammar and spelling; it's true that not everyone is an English major, but even a quick run through in Word will pick out most mistakes in a piece of writing. One liners and script format won't cut it, I'm afraid!
☆ Staying active is vital!
Magische Platzen doesn't have posting deadlines but we would prefer it if you managed to be active! The RP relies on everyone to stay active even when there isn't any active plot happening. Even goofy slice of life shenanigans can be beneficial in the long run! If, for whatever reason, you suddenly vanish or need to take a break, you have two weeks to alert me and then we will assume you have dropped.
☆ Please keep in mind that this roleplay will include themes such as character death.
The s3cret p@ssw0rd is 'sis puella magica'. If your character strays into a situation that logically will lead to their death and there is no in-story way for them to be saved, no one will break out a Deus Ex Machina for you.
✰ Follow the BulbaForum TOS to the letter.
Moreso than anything else in this rule list, please follow the BulbaForum Terms of Service. In case you're too lazy to go and double check (shame on you!) this basically means that player harrasment of any form, on or off BulbaForum, will not be tolerated. Violation of any of the above will result in an insta-ban from Magische Platzen.
☆ Characters are currently limited to three per person, with a two magical warriors per person cap.
This means that if you would like to apply as another character once you have three, you must drop one of your others. Exceptions may be made for plot-important side-characters, or for plays who have proved that they could juggle more than three characters. If one of your characters dies (which is possible in an RP like this), you may make another character to fill that gap if you wish.
☆ If you're having trouble coming up with the magical warrior parts of your profile, you can use this handy dandy character generator! Just use the parts you need.
THE WORLD OF MAGISCHE PLATZEN
WORLD INFO:
Genre: Magical Girl, with elements of urban fantasy.
Setting: This RP takes place in Japan, in the year 2020 and in the fictional town of Mitadake. Despite its origins, it is unrelated to any other magical warrior series meaning that, no, we won't be seeing Kyuubey or Sailor Moon any time soon.
The exact layout of Mitadake is purposely left a little vague to allow for players to use the city as they like. There are, however, a few important places and landmarks that you should keep in mind!
Mitadake Middle School: The middle school that most young students of Mitadake attend. It's very big for a middle school. It's twinned with Mitadake High, meaning that you'll often see students of both mingling on the way to and from school.
Mitadake Shopping Mall: A ridiculously huge shopping mall, containing 800 stores, mostly selling luxury goods. It serves as the impromptu 'Entertainment District'. The Sugar Bowl, a popular cafe and dating spot, resides here as well as the 8BIT Fantasy arcade, for all your gaming needs.
Apple Park: A well-kept park that serves as the main place to relax outdoors in Mikitahara. The Mitadake river cuts through it, creating a perfect swimming spot for the summer. The park is so named because, weirdly enough, the only thing that grows there are apple trees.
Other landmark locations will be added as the RP progresses. Don't be afraid to suggest some!
What is a magical warrior?A magical warrior is, in short, a person who has made a contract with a familiar to gain magical powers. These 'contracts' are an agreement between contractee and familiar to fight against the youma that have begun to plauge the world. It's a hard life with few rewards -- but not entirely without payment. For any magical warrior that can collect seven Oblivion Seeds -- the cores of particularly powerful youma -- will be granted a single wish.
However, use of magic comes with a price. Over time, magical warriors will accrue something called 'Overcharge', which can only be discharged by fallout. Depending on how much Overcharge a magical warrior has accrued, and their emotional state at the time of their fallout, this can be anything from temporarily creating mild distortions in reality to leveling a house in a massive explosion of tainted magic, known as a 'magical burst'.
Unknown to any of the magical warriors, there is one final, terrible price for their use of magic. The more overcharge a warrior collects, the more it affects their minds and their souls -- until a magical burst is all but inevitable. And what lies on the end of a magical burst?
A newborn youma, carrying an Oblivion Seed...
As creatures of magic, familiars don’t quite think the way people do. Some are better than others at covering it up, but their values and understanding of the world are always a little off from how humans see things.
It’s not totally clear what youma even are, but they are unquestionably dangerous. They can take on countless different forms, from warped humanoids to masses of abstract shapes. Some believe that they derive their forms from the dreams and thoughts of the people around them. Youma sap energy from unsuspecting humans, stealing memories, emotions, and life force itself. Victims who are only lightly touched by youma become tired and listless for a time, while those who suffer a more extensive attack can be turned in to suicidal zombies or ripped them from reality entirely.
When a youma recognizes an actual threat, it will lash out and try to destroy that threat immediately. Normal people can’t even properly perceive youma, much less hope to beat one. Only magic can harm them. Some magical girls have found that they can fight youma using normal weapons, but this is actually because their own magic imbues those weapons with the necessary power.
When a magical girl kills a youma, its Nightmare collapses and particularly powerful youma will leave behind an Oblivion Seed. These appear as diamond shaped gems with some kind of magical writing on them. Magical girls can store them inside of their weapons. It is said that a magical girl who accumulates 13 Oblivion Seeds is granted one wish.
Youma are the tainted and corrupted forms of magical warriors who have fallen to a magical burst. Newborn youma, fresh from the trauma, will be particularly vicious and often target magical warriors directly. In addition, some Oblivion Seeds can carry the last memories of its owner -- leader to the slow corruption of the new carrier of the Oblivion Seed...

What is a familiar?
The familiars are cute little magical creatures who can grant people with sufficient potential the power of a magical warrior. Some look closer to normal animals than others, but they never quite look natural. A familiar’s fur is always a little too clean and soft, they come in pure, vivid colors, and they often have some kind of arcane marking on them. And that’s on top of them being sentient and capable of human speech. As creatures of magic, familiars don’t quite think the way people do. Some are better than others at covering it up, but their values and understanding of the world are always a little off from how humans see things.
What is a youma?
Normal people cannot perceive the youma or their influence, but they can certainly feel it. An active youma generates a distortion in the tapestry of the world called a Nightmare. For ordinary people this manifests as simply a vague feeling of dread. For magical girls and any others attuned to m agic, a Nightmare appears as an increasingly surreal region of distorted reality. On the edges of the Nightmare things will seem a little off here and there, but at its heart, where the youma resides, it is a maddening jumble of objects and images. It’s not totally clear what youma even are, but they are unquestionably dangerous. They can take on countless different forms, from warped humanoids to masses of abstract shapes. Some believe that they derive their forms from the dreams and thoughts of the people around them.
