Why did the writers NOT use the Player Characters?

The two BW female leads were probably not used in the anime because they only existed for half a gen. As in they weren't the main girls for the entire generation like May and Dawn were, but just 2 years out of their gen.

Game Freak confirmed in an interview that the decision to release sequels was made after they had finished developing Black and White. Chances are that Iris had already been chosen to be a main character by then.

Its possible, but I could have seen Hilda being de-aged and traveling with Ash instead of Iris. But it would look stranger then when BW2 came out there would be a new heroine and an "old outdated one" would still be on the cast...prompting the writers to either drop Hilda after only 80 episodes or keep her instead of using game advertising.

Either way its not feasible so I can see why since the first time since 2002 the female leads of a gen were not used.

It wouldn't be stranger than what is happening with Iris and Bianca right now; they've undergone notable design changes and character development in B2W2, but those changes won't be incorporated into the anime (at least not anytime soon). Also, Dawn making her return around the release of new games is hardly a logical choice when it comes to promoting the games. Not to mention Ash and Team Rocket...

By having Ash make it to the top 16 instead of 3rd or something, they show courage and established reality in there fiction. A ten year old can't win on his first try in a sport that relies heavily on experience. By establishing this the writers had to stick by this there was no reason to end the story when there is money to be made. This pretty much trapped them.

Exactly!

Though to be fair, it's not like the PCs really have much going for them to tell them apart. Pokemon Adventures goes the did a nice job of giving them distinct personalites (and even some are starting to get similiar thanks to overcrowding), but in reality they are merely avatars to represent the person playing. Replacing Ash would fix some of the show's problems (Kenta was more interesting and likable in one special than he's ever been), but crappy writing and executive meddling would still rule the day.

Besides dem Jap kids loves them some shallow idiot heroes. So it's not just him.

You know good and well why Ash and TR are still here and why Dawn is getting a cameo despite her not being in the BW2 games.

The anime makes exceptions with their characters. Same reason why Brock stayed like two extra generations even though he could have been dropped at the end of Johto when Misty was.

So who's to say that they would have a problem to keep Hilda as a main character for the second season if she had nearly two years of screentime under her belt?

I don't care that they kept Ash because they allowed us to grow with him. I do wish some male protagonists would appear in the main, non-sidestory, anime. Ash never had a rival in Hoenn, while Brendan would have been perfect for that. Hilbert or Hilda could have been used instead of Stephan. Lucas instead of Paul. Just having them even appear in one official episode would be great, but for some strange reason they refuse to do it.

And there's also this theory that since Hilda has long hair, they could've made her go to a hairdresser and change her hairstyle to be like the BW2 heroine...

Hilda probably would have been a Dawn clone if they used her. Iris was probably used for a chance of pace after two girly heroines.

If they got rid of ash entirely then Pokemon would have been gone along time ago, at least the anime would in the US. You kno how popular Yu-Gi-Oh was but then they changed the character and no one knows what's going on with that show. the same with other shows that have sequels spin offs. Jimmy neutron had planet sheen and that show is gone. it would be disastrous and would be a big risk

My guess is that they want to make ash whole story line then maybe they will hit it off with another character but hey ash is pretty cool and I admit he can act a little stupid sometimes.
