Your controversial opinions

Well, that and the Ultra Beasts, whose entire point is that they're completely alien Pokemon or Pokemon-like creatures, so of course they differ wildly from the usual style.
see the thing is i actually feel like ultra beasts weren't alien ENOUGH. i wouldn't go as far to say they're beyond saving unlike the guy above me but aside from xurkitree and blacephalon (kartana looks pretty alien at first but once you figure out what it actually is it kinda loses that vibe) they felt... weirdly tame. now that we have origin form palkia and dialga i really hope they give it another shot and pull no punches this time (not that origin palkia and dialga are flawless ofc i can get why they'd seem awkward). that said the guy above me IS right when it comes to how pokestar studios had some bizarre bullshit what the hell are those alien things? gimme that as a pokemon! stuff like the whopping 3 villains we've gotten that are neither human nor pokemon (bittercold, dark matter, dark rust) albeit. maybe make the designs a bit more complex.

anyway i don't think bw and bw2 are nearly as good as people make them out to be. like i'll admit when it comes to gameplay gripes it's pretty much how i feel about every pre gen 6 game (said gripes being dear god i spent so long grinding) but like. dear god why does it get praised for being deep or whatever? "it's morally grey" the villain is made very clear by the end and just because colress isn't on the side of the player or team plasma doesn't mean he's morally grey. the question of "is pokemon training bad actually" is never actually discussed, despite the fact that while yeah ofc it's not bad as a whole there ARE trainers who mistreat their pokemon, hell they actually do bring up pokemon abuse except guess what? it's only to show "oh yeah team plasma is evil btw". admittedly my view of n has been tarnished for... reasons, but either way i still can't look at him and not see some grown ass adult dumping all this cryptic fake deep bullshit on some teenager which, while not uncommon for this series, n in particular seems to have gotten away with it. that said enjoyers of gen 5's spinoff games and also the anime you have my respect, if i see a motherfucker call black and white the games underrated in 2022 i'm attacking them on sight but if i see someone call black and white the anime underrated i'll. probably believe you.

- If the person thinks DP is pretty bad, he/she certainly won't love Platinum, which is still an improved version of the original game, the famous (or infamous) third version.
DP are shit and I love Platinum. The tweaks, added features, move tutors, and especially the expanded Pokedex go a long way to making Sinnoh actually decent - even if it's still easily the worst mainline Pokemon region.

Controversial opinion: I like inanimate object Pokemon and prefer them to some of the more animalistic looking 'Mon.
I kinda needed to hear this. I'm not a big fan of objectmon (I don't hate them either), but seeing how everyone thrash them online it's nice to see someone support the underdogs.

Seel is how everyone should spell the name of the cute aquatic animal irl. (Unsure if controversial.)
I’ll add onto that; Seel, Dewgong, and Komala are great Pokémon. For all the people that say they’re “just a seal, koala, etc.”, I’ll agree with you but counter that a few normies mixed in with all the elemental creatures and weird things make them unique in their own way.

I feel like people are too harsh on the Trubbish line. Yes, I know that they are living trash bags. What about Geodude? It is literally a living Pet Rock with arms. Why does Geoedude get a pass, but not Trubbish?
Because rocks are cool. Whereas nobody likes taking out the trash bag.

So apparently it’s also a….cat??

I thought I heard somewhere that Garbodor was supposed to be a Totoro parody so maybe that’s why?

On an unrelated note, I think Leon having Charizard as his ace was hilarious and kind of wish it was addressed ironically in-game. Maybe if TPC showed they were laughing with us it wouldn’t be so hated?

I never really thought of Gary as a jerk rival. After recently replaying Leaf Green, I think I actually feel kind of sorry for him.

His Grampa can't be bothered to remember his name and for some unknown and unexplained reason constantly favors you over him. Professor Oak randomly decides to give you a pokemon on the same day he promised to give Gary one. Even though you were being an idiot and trying to run off into tall grass alone (for no reason), he decides to let you get first pick. You probably take the pokemon that Gary wanted.

When Professor Oak shows up after you beat him and become champion, he turns to Gary and tells him that he's disappointed in Gary for losing to us. He's disappointed that Gary is only second best? Really? Acts like his loss his because he doesn't care enough about his pokemon which seems pretty harsh and totally diminishing of all his other accomplishments.

And honestly, I don't remember him doing or saying anything mean. He acts a little immature, but he never really felt like a jerk. I don't know if he can be blamed either. Do we know where his parents are? It's just him, a seemingly much older sister and his grampa; whom he can't seem to get love and approval from no matter how hard he tries. Instead, we get that. Gary needs a hug.

THIS! ALL OF THIS

Blue/Green (not really Gary as that's more anime than games) is not remotely as mean as Silver/Bede/Klara/Avery are. He's cocky for sure, but given the statements above it's clearly a self-defense mechanism because he's being overshadowed by both his own best friend and his grandpa

I always think of his generations episode when Agatha compares him to Oak, and he just snaps. Loses all of that smug attitude and just screams, "DON'T COMPARE ME TO THAT OLD MAN!". Like it's easy to imply that he's always had high expectations of him thanks to being Oak's grandson.

Some people like to use the "Oak is just joking about forgetting his name" thing but like even if it is a joke that's not funny to an 11-year-old who is probably more known as "Professor Oak's Grandson" than his actual name. Not all jokes parents/guardians play on their kids land well and a responsible adult would recognize and apologize and stop

As far as his parents, gamewise we don't know where they are, but in one of the most faithful manga adaptations, Zensho states that Blue and Daisy's parents died in a car crash. So if that holds true in gameverse canon you have a young kid who lost their parents, goes to live with his grandpa who blatantly prefers his best friend over him, and makes jokes about (or legitimately can't be bothered to) remembering his name, gets constantly compared to his grandpa....

Yeah, I can see why he would stop being friends with Red by the time the games start. Like is it Red's fault? No, but expecting an 11-year-old to make the most mature decisions given blatant favoritism and potentially dead parents is absurd.

And again his dialogue isn't nearly as bad as later jerk rivals and he actually gives helpful tips in his dialogue.

And there's also no evidence he mistreats his Pokemon. If anything judging by his dialogue in FRLG and his generations episode he's more of a glory hog (crediting the wins to his tactics and not the work his Pokemon put in) and not actually abusing them.

I like trubbish and garbador. There I said it.

I don't hate gen 1 pokemon getting gimmicks and things more than newer pokemon as much as everyone else does. Since they were the first pokemon made, of course there would be many ways to use them with new gimmicks as opposed to newer pokemon made with said gimmicks already in mind. GIVE ME VARIANT NIDOS AND ONLY THEN WILL I SAY YOU CAN STOP.

I hate Cynthia. I love Volo. Therefore, all surprise sinnoh boss encounters in future generations should be Volo. His rant speech at the end gave me the impression he might be able to live longer than normal humans. GIVE ME MY GARBAGE FASHION BOY. How dare you let him just walk away from me and vanish from the game. Waluigi hate this.

Marnie's a boring character Bede is the better rival.

Why do you hate Cynthia and find Marnie boring? Would you mind elaborating on this?

Sure I don't mind at all. : )

Well with Cynthia she always oversaturated everything for me. Call me a hipster all you want but damn I hate how everyone and their grandma was always like "CYNTHIA BEST CHARACTER HEE HOO" when I was younger and got back into pokemon when HGSS came out. Plus she was a 'secret boss' trainer of sorts in three games that weren't her generation. Like cool okay yeah alright how about Lance or Steven pop up in one of those instead at least.

Also I just... I hate character designs where the character wears just one color. And its worse with her because its black. Having an outfit be one solid color with barely any shade difference to break it up is bad enough, but black and white are the worst options for me. While Black still looks good compared to if her outfit were all the same shade of blue, I just really dislike all black. It's just so weird compared to all the other important characters in Sinnoh. Y'all gonna explore ruins looking like some rich duke's trophy wife? With the fur and all? You and Steven must get along great... I dislike Diantha for the same reason color wise. Though I guess it makes sense since 99% of her personality is 'actress' that she'd end up looking like a prop. At least Iris has more than one shade of pink that are drastically different enough. We need a new female champion with a better design augh why do we only have three to the 10 confirmed male champions in the games and why are they pretty lady in all black how mysterious, actress lady in white with personality of cardboard, and freakin Iris ugh Iris why did she have to be the one to become champion whyyyyyy.

Also in all of her art her pose is always 'glamourous' instead of 'trainer everyone says is going to make me eat dirt when she buries my team alive'. You could have told me she was the famous actress instead of a ruin and history buff and I'd have been more apt to believe you. The times in the anime where she's not wearing all black and the coat with the fur I like her design so much better. ..Though I'd still at least give her an outfit to wear when she's ruin diving.

And Volo comes around actually looking like a character instead of a color swatch and then boom hey look another Cynthia in all black but this one has grey hair and constantly looks like she's worried about something she won't tell you about because wow those eyebrows are really gonna stay in that position the whole game huh AND she gets to appear after the end of the game while Volo peaces out to parts unkown. Ughhhhhh whyyyyyyy

tl;dr Cythia got too much attention in the games and outside the games and I'm pretty sure her gender has something to do with it. Dang Cynthia why does Gamefreak let you have TWO obvious ancestor parallels?? Also please put something else on do you know there are colors besides black? And clothes that you can wear that actual make sense for looking around old ruins?

With Marnie. I don't like characters like her. The stoic cool girl who's default face is ALWAYS flat as a pancake and smiling seems like a foreign concept to them. She's the Rei Ayanami of pokemon dressed like a pastel punk princess. Though I suppose that's a genetic trait since her brother's the same way personality wise. But with him it seems more like he's just in a constant state of 'too tired for this'. Give her a bit of peppiness to go with that pastel pink dress. Give her a little attitude to go with that black leather jacket and those boots. I really like her design (though I'd probably give her something like long legging shorts with stylized tears in them) I just wish her personality had as much character as her outfit. I don't dislike her as much as Cynthia. Probably because I haven't been oversaturated with her for more than one generation.

...Though I'm pretty sure I'm not allowed in Spikemuth anymore after making this post. xD Sorry Piers, gamefreak did your sis dirty when they made her. No no, team yell no need for an escort I'll see myself out I have fighting, bug, and fairy types and I'm not afraid to use them.
