WORLDBUILDING: A shared world!

just gonna throw this out their and say I fancy having mountains to the south seen as i've realised the mountains are always to the north. Also I dont know if this seems to far fetched but I had an idea for a city in the sky which is all kind of glass and chrome but could be really cool and I want some feedback if posible. I have an idea for a gym leader but I would prefer to leave it to someone else as I already came up with dervish.

City in the sky? No, just...no. I mean, don't you want the region to be "grounded". Har har. But seriously, we don't want this to turn into something that wouldn't actually be possible in a pokemon game. And I wouln't see the logic in making a city out of glass. Submit your idea for the gym leader, regardless if others already have.

Yeah, I think we should avoid stretching the plausibility of something existing that much.

I fail to see why we cannot have a floating city...call it an inspiration from Star Wars and the Pokémon anime (Lawrence III had the huge-ass antigravity powered Hikokyu airship).

And I agree that one evil team should be canon but each city or area could have its own "bad guy".

----------------

As for my other towns (Mining town and an old industrial city):

Corbel Town ("corbel" - stone bracket projecting from a wall or corner to support a beam) for the mining town.

Enceinte City ("Enceinte" - an enclosing wall, usually exterior, of a fortified place) for the industrial city.

If no one objects, I can create a gym leader for the decaying industrial city. His name can be Mack and I picture him as this burly guy with a wrench in one hand and grease stained blue mechanic's jumpsuit. His gym could look like a factory and he and his trainers could specialize in steel and electric types.

----------------

Corbel Town
Corbel Town is a town that sits on rich veins of ores and precious metals. As a result, many mines are active in the area and this has made the town quite prosperous. But this comes at a cost; the air and water is very polluted thanks decades of mining and smelting. Most of the inhabitants work in the mines or smelters or are family of the workers.

The roads are barely usable gravel paths and the air is pretty much constantly filled with dust from the open pit mines and kicked up by heavy equipment and vehicles that traverse the roads.

Many, many steel, rock and ground pokémon are present and are very accustomed to people. In fact, it is not uncommon for the inhabitants to have one of these pokémon as pets. Traveling pokémon trainers have been known to come to this town to catch steel, rock and ground types - despite the fact that the town is quite polluted. Some have even been known to enter the mines to catch pokémon despite the fact that this is officially forbidden (a small cash "donation" to the supervisor can get them to "look the other way") and that several trainers have died from accidents with mining equipment.

There are several abandoned mines in the town as well and while most of those are closed off (and some to pokémon, which trainers sometimes try to catch - despite how dangerous these abandoned mineshafts are), some of them have taken lives of their own.

For instance, the massive open pit mine at the north end of the town has been converted into one of the largest (and dustiest) pokémon arenas in the region.

The gym leader, Dervish, also serves as a supervisor for one of the town's largest and most prosperous mines. His gym which is supposed to be gleaming silver (it is usually covered in reddish dust from the mining operations) sits atop the main shaft for said mine. In order to face him, one must traverse chess themed puzzles and trainers blocking the path to him.

Upon defeat, he will allow access to his mine. The top levels of the mine have been stripped of their valuable ores and have now been converted to nightclubs and betting arenas; one can bet on anything from pokémon battles to mixed martial arts fights to racing. The deeper layers are home to pokémon as well as active mining operations. Access is forbidden but the officials can be bribed to allow you through.

On a side note, there have been rumors that miners have unearthed metal and rock titans (Registeel and Regirock).

Enceinte City

This is a large city that is kind of gritty and rundown with dirty streets, abandoned lots, dilapidated buildings and boarded up and shuttered factories that have been abandoned for decades.

There are people living there but the neighborhoods are kind of gritty and not very nice. The crime rate is kind of high but the city government is trying their best to keep it under control. The air, soil and water are quite polluted from the decades of industrial activity.

Many steel and poison types can be found in the abandoned factories and a lot of "urban" pokémon are found there too.

I just don't see the reason why you would build a city in the sky? The region will hardly be populated that much to the point of where they're just building floating cities. No resources come from that or anything.

.....the "big bad"? You mean the evil team? I'd be down with that. As long as it isn't like bowsers airship or something like that...

I really like world building so this seems like a great idea.

Would you want your floating city all technological, or more magic-y? Magitek?

---

On the nature of an evil team, I think several local groups and a one large, over arcing group would work well. As one local team suffers set backs, another team could take advantage and some other protagonist would have to deal with it. Meanwhile, the region wide team would also be taking advantage and doing their own thing. Perhaps even causing problems for local teams where it serves their purposes, whatever we decide it to be.
One of major strengths is that it fosters both ongoing conflict and communication between authors, without always requiring a committee/majority vote. It also adds to a sense of largeness and world beyond each individual story.

I suppose this is more for when things are more set, but it's something to think about while we're moving ahead.

So, here's my idea about Palisidian:

It's a big, technologically advanced city that is the entertainment capital of the region. It has three districts, with the major- Entertainment one- in the middle with the other two circling around it. To the east is the district where most people live and houses the PokéCenter, the Department store, that kind of things. The west district houses the docks and that where tourists constantly come and go (I picture the city next to the sea/ocean, like say, Miami). The East and West districts are connected to the Entertainment district with two bridges (the ocean water kind runs between the districts) made out of see-through material so one could see the water beneath.

The Entertainment district... well, the name speaks for itself. Casinos, cinemas, concerts, big flashy Pokémon tournaments (Battle Tower style with lotsa audience and bets)- you name it, they have it. The whole district is made out of scyscrapers of varying size, all of them sporting black-stained windows and such. I mean, that obsidian part has to come from somewhere, right? The gym is right in the middle of it, the tallest building. Luna has concerts with her group on the open roof (I picture it with a movable see-through glass dome- for rainy days). And that's where she has her matches, too. Trainers have to proceed through the building in a Battle Tower style till they reach her. Also, like her concerts, her gym matches always have big audience.

Basically, this is my idea about Palisidian. Hope y'all like it.

I like it, cept it's gotta be near a lake/river, as the sea isn't available in Kitao.

Oh yeah... uhm, how about it being at the south point of the lake in the center of the region? Palisidian is the city you have to pass to board a ship to the E4.

Also, we should make the E4 accesible from all four cardinal directions. Palisidian from the south, the Venetian city and the other two don't neccesarily have to be port towns. Airports and underwater tunnels also work. Like, the mining town can have a tunnel and such.

Maybe we should have a town of treehouses Maybe we could have each member of the elite four originate from a different side of Kitao. North, south, east, and west.

Would you want your floating city all technological, or more magic-y? Magitek?

I'm thinking something like a cross between Lawrence III's flying vessel and the titular city/starship of Stargate Atlantis, only without the space travel capability.

Oh, and I think I have an idea for the evil team leader. Anyone interested in hearing?

Considering the mixed response I have had for the sky city I will put my idea in and see what you think.
Aeroscade city
Originally created by a rich company executive the city of Aeroscade was designed to be a haven for the rich and famous of Kitao so they wouldn't have to deal with the crime and poor of the world below. The town was built in secret until one day it took to the skies in all its glory. Having received sponsors from many of the region's richest people. It consisted of great glass platforms which were intricately bound together through twisting vines of a gold and platinum alloy. The accommodation were plush apatments fitted with all the mod cons and were all situated on their own private platform which connected to the rest of the trip by large drawbridges. All the amenities a person could ask for were there from spas and swimming pools to sport arenas and most importantly a gym. The gym was run by the original executive who had created what was known as the 'gilded island' he was a man obsessed with wealth and power which was reflected in his ship where he controlled everything. However recently Jarred Midas had felt himself losing his touch as his city was bought up by a mysterious organisation. Though the money spent was the astronomical price tag he had put on the people occupying the places were loud, rude and common on the contrary to his original vision when he create his wonder. He didn't know what was happening but he knew he had to stop it.

Anyway this is my idea and I'll develop Midas more soon

well....meh, I don't care anymore, other people can give their views on the idea.
