Speculation Future Pokemon Game Speculation Thread

I'm not upset about the lack of Unova, it can wait another generation, but I'm a little annoyed we got nothing new for Johto. I feel like it deserves another remake, but maybe the reaction to BDSP scared GameFreak and ILCA away from the idea of doing something with Johto. This might also be the reason we're seemingly not getting proper Generation 6 remakes in the style of ORAS, HGSS, and BDSP.
I'd love another Johto remake or something for that region. We still could get a Legends Johto game at some point, but I'm less sure that we'll get another G/S remake. People have wanted a Let's Go Johto game for years and while I'd like that too, I also feel like the time to release that game has come and gone.

You know...maybe this is controversial to say, but I don't think the Legends games are supposed to function as "remakes" in the way that FR/LG, HG/SS, or OR/AS did in the past, especially since this new game just focuses on Lumiose as opposed to the rest of the region. It feels more like its own entry in the mainline games and shouldn't rule out the possibility of more "traditional remakes" for other generations in the future. Or maybe we'll just get ports of older games lol
That's basically how I feel about Legends games too. They aren't going to take the place of traditional remakes, but just a different way to explore an older region and give it new life. Plus, X/Y wouldn't be getting remakes for a long time, probably not for at least another couple of generations, and by that point, Legends Z-A would be an older game too, so they'd want to make those games accessible again. Just releasing ports of older games instead wouldn't be impossible, but I think that they could easily keep making remakes and Legends games. It would be a potentially easy way to make a generation last longer with both remakes and Legends games on the table. I feel like they'd still want to make the original games accessible beyond just ports.

I believe the legends games are spin offs that are closely tied to the mainline games, like how you got the reveal mirror or the ranger egg
I've never understood how Legends could be considered a spin-off game when they are developed by Game Freak. They are different kind of games than what we usually expect from main series Pokemon games, but they are still made by the same developers. It would be like considering Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee a spin off game because it was different despite being made by Game Freak. They're also most likely going to consider it a main series Pokemon game, which I believe they did with Legends Arceus too.

I think there's a minor chance main series VC games could be announced in the fall, but beyond that I think this is all we get. If there were going to be a spinoff game, it probably would've been announced now since it would need sufficient marketing. As is I think TCG Pocket may be all we get and in the minds of TPC, that IS a new spinoff.

As for some people here thinking they skipped gens 5 and 2 or whatnot, I’m sure it’s not a central rule for remakes to follow order. And I for one am beyond glad they are saving the BW remake for another time.

I wholeheartedly believe this might be true.

Why though? Let’s Go was mostly to bring Go players into the main series and was back when Go was more relevant. Altogether, I think Legends games are going to replace Let’s Go in the long run. I can’t imagine more Let’s Go games happening myself because of that.

I didn't think they were skipping Gen 5 at all. I was in fact, actually fearing the possibility of the BW remakes to be like BDSP, which would've meant no substantial story or location changes to make it fresh, no new Pokemon forms at all, and an artstyle that wouldn't have matched well with the story of the games. So I was relieved when they did announce something else, I was actually surprised it wasn't Johto either due to the Unown making an appearance throughout the presents.

While true, the point is that those potential remakes were skipped for the time being and won't be coming out this year or probably even next year either since Z-A seems to be the main core game release of 2025 based on what we know at the moment. So it'll be at least two years before any other core games get remade probably, that's still quite a long wait tbh.

I'm just glad we got confirmation that Legends will be an ongoing thing, even going out of order a bit and doing regions and maybe time periods we didn't expect. Feels like the future possibilities really are pretty endless now. Hopefully they'll get to Johto next time because I felt Johto also could have benefited from a return too. For now though I'm happy Kalos is finally getting the return and love I wanted for it so damn badly 11 years ago.

I know, and the point of that post was to just point that out. I really just do not sant half assed remakes, so it’s good that we are gonna wait to see better BW remakes.

HGSS is the best any official product adapting the original Johto design is ever gonna get. The region deserves better than the third rethread of that design that'll probably be worse than HGSS anyway. A Legends-esque new project is the only way forward that's worthwhile, and I'd rather just wait however long it takes until Game Freak has a really good idea for it and the opening to execute that idea properly.

As you alluded to, I think the fact they didn't even bother outsourcing an XY remake as a PLZA companion piece is the final nail in the coffin for the whole practice. If GF and co. don't even find it worthwhile to remake a game famous for having tons of loose ends I can't imagine they'll suddenly change their mind for BW1 or OG Johto.

KALOS? ITS FUCKING KALOS??
someone pinch me, this has to be a dream.
im sobbing if they do this well it might be my favorite game of all time genuinely

Hey, Guzmania.

Sorry to be a little off topic, but did you see the new Silver Style in Pokémon Master during the Pokémon Presents presentation?

He looks too fucking cool with that white suit and with the shirt a little open in a casino boss style, Lol. Even more, they gave to him a fucking Mega-Tyranitar. I'm so happy that the Pokémon will get the love that it deserves after being held hostage by our comrade Mr. Brock for years.

This announcement made me want to start the game again, but I'll just continue to follow from afar.

yessss!!! i loved that so much, good to see my boy get what he deserves! it's also great to see tyranitar around, i do definitely feel like a johto character deserves one.. i also hope to see an actual alolan with kommo-o someday (by "actual alolan" i'm hoping for perhaps a sygna suit kukui or hell, maybe even a ryuki alt - kommo-o is his ace in the games, after all, but that's a story for another day
one of my absolute favorite alts in the game, i thought it couldn't get better than his awesome sygna suit but champion silv is just stunning.

...i wonder if/when we'll get more hisui characters up in masters ex? i would really like to see volo one of these days; i think they wanted to wait until the twist became more "common knowledge" so to speak but i think they've reached that point already.
also give us ilima please, iirc he's the only trial captain who has not shown up yet :(
very glad about the new year's wallace alt though, i have been hoping for one for years. (kinda want alder to get a turn now too, he's not even necessarily my favorite but the guy deserves a chance o.o

anyway, i'm absolutely loving his look. the masters ex designs hardly ever disappoint. (also cool to see skyla in the trainers lounge, she's one of my favorite unovan gym leaders :yay: )

in the spirit of the thread... i'm gonna be honest, i do expect gen 5 remakes (unsure whether they'll be more in the vein of oras or bdsp, though) at some point in time. i'm quite sure they're not going to arrive until late in gen 10, if not further past that, but i really wouldn't take legends za as a sign that they've given up entirely on remakes, frankly. they're just doing things out of order (imo), but honestly, i'm perfectly fine with that. i think this is going to be a much better game than anything gen 5 related they could've given us this year or the next.

and in the meantime, i still have perfectly good copies of the four unova games i can enjoy. :bulbaLol:

Tbh i hope legends Z-A has online and local PVP in it but they stick with SV for VGC. I feel like bringing back Megas and not including PVP is just kinda redundant. If they do move VGC to Z-A and add PVP I feel like a lot of people would not enjoy another “Mega Meta” for VGC and SV is the best actual game for VGC

Honestly I never believed the remakes because outside of gen 1 remakes (which are released weirdly ngl) they’ve been released every even gen and we got bdsp last gen so we’re going to get the remakes next gen

I think that people wanted Johto to get some attention and there were some nods to those games, such as including one of HG/SS Team Rocket admins and Blue becoming the Viridian City Gym Leader. At the time, it did make me think that they were potentially setting up Let's Go Johto games. But they were made partly to attract Go Players into the main series and to get more people to buy a Switch before Sword/Shield came out. They could always try to attract more Pokemon Go players since it's still arguably their most popular mobile game, but I feel like that should have happened earlier if that was going to happen. I liked the Let's Go games. It made Kanto feel more vibrate and fun to explore with Pokemon in the overworld, so Johto getting that kind of treatment would be nice. I've seen people getting upset over Let's Go Johto games not being announced for years, especially when Unite was announced.

I don't think Legends games are supposed to replace Let's Go exactly. Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee were still effectively Yellow remakes. Legends are a different kind of main series game that aren't going to replace remakes.

This makes me think that the Gen 10 games would bring Mega Evolution back if ZA introduces new ones only so that the new Megas can be used in a competitive setting.

I believe the same thing since it could be kind of a waste to introduce new Mega Evolutions in a Legends game, only for them to never be in a mainline title and not be used in competitive.

Yeah. And there was already precedent for this, as every Pokémon that got a Hisuian form or evolution (besides the starters) were included in the Paldea Regional dex so that the Hisuian forms and evos can be used in a competitive setting.

True. And it's not like you can't have two gimmicks in the same game if Generation 10 has its own battle gimmick. Generation 7 had Z-moves and Megas, Megas were just relegated to postgame content.

To add onto this, at this point it wouldn't surprise me if we got an Andorra region between Kalos and Paldea that reuses both Mega Evolution and Terastal: the former being for specific Pokémon and the latter being for every Pokémon to use. It wouldn't hurt to reuse burst mechanics every once in a while so they can put their focus elsewhere for a generation. However, unlike the Mega + Z-Move combo, I'd imagine you would have to choose between whether to Terastallize or Mega Evolve in any given battle.
