I dig yaoi. Yuri is squicky.

(Shounen-ai and shoujo-ai are both fine though.)

And you make it sound like all things yuri/yaoi have to involve sex. Which is wrong. >_>

actually, I think that's right. Haven't most people distinguished between "yuri/yaoi" and "shoujo-ai/shounen-ai"?

Anyway, I really just like hetero, but if I had to choose, yuri. I enjoy seeing chicks get penetrated, and unless there's a strap-on or similar object involved (or a futanari, hopefully with at least one other girl being normal... but that's kinda pseudo-hetero anyway), two (or more) girls really aren't gonna get much further than some fingering and cunnilingus, which looks kinda weak to me.

Shonen-ai and Shojo-ai aren't terms really used anymore (well, at least from what I've seen), so Yaoi/Yuri apply to both non-sexual and sexual same-gender couples. There was some yaoi/shonen-ai series that had people stop using shonen-ai/shojo-ai as much anymore or something. I don't really remember, but yaoi/yuri = shonen-ai/shojo-ai, now anyways.

I'll stand by what I said (plus I already voted for yuri). But whatever the hell you wish to call them, when it comes to non-sexualized stories about same-sex relations, it doesn't really matter to me. These are characters with their own preferences, fitting in the context of whatever story they're involved in (though, if it doesn't really fit and hints are just tossed in for the sole purpose of fan-service, it'd really depend on how well it's done; this applies to hetero as well), so yeah. I'll just watch these characters move through the plot and whether they end up together or break apart or whatever, that's that (I also enjoy when they play up such things for laughs, as is the case with Ouran Host Club).

Yaoi. But yeah, yuri doesn't bother me, I'm just not into it.

I enjoy the occasional yaoi, but I generally don't seek it out unless I'm in a horny mood.

Of course, sexual preference doesn't completely decide which you like, but being bi myself, I am addicted to both. 8D

Regarding terminology, Shounen-ai in Japanese literally refers to pederasty. Here's a quick translation of the Japanese Wikipedia article on BL:

Boys' Love is a Japanese word made from the English meaning of Shounen-ai. It's abbreviated as BL. It came into use in the mid-nineties. Originally it was called JUNE from the name of the magazine 'JUNE', but as more magazines like 'Biburosu' and 'Pafu' began to publish in this genre, the use of 'Boys' Love' began to spread. In the English-speaking world, the Japanese word 'Shounen-ai' has been adopted.

Shounen-ai, Shotacon, Yaoi and JUNE are all similar words, but they differ on the point that the former two indicate an affectionate preference between shounen, and the latter two indicate that kind of preference but in many cases are accompanied by relationships between shounen focussing on sexual acts. Boys' Love belongs to the latter category. Recently another term has been used, 'Beautiful Guy' from 'Utsukushii Otoko'.

Yaoi is a general term encompassing the entirety of Boys' Love, JUNE, Parody Yaoi, doujinshi and commercial publication, but Boys' Love is a term originally derived from JUNE, which originally spread from commercial publications. So like JUNE it covers a different genre from Parody Yaoi. Many works are less aesthetic and dark than JUNE, and instead are lighter and more cheerful. Originally JUNE and Parody Yaoi were, with the exception of the fact that they covered same-sex relationships between men, totally different genres. But since in the early days writers were scarce, many Parody Yaoi authors were drawn into Boys' Love. In conclusion while Yaoi continues to be in general use, 'BL' has become a replacement for Parody Yaoi, with a lighter connotation.

Sorry, your message is too long for this brain-dead user, who has a large vocabulary but the attention span of a pebble. Please redial and try again.

(Sorry, but that opportunity was too good to pass up. :p)

Yuri, Yaoi is way too gross in my book. I just don't like seeing two guys together, seeing how I like women that way and not guys that way. But I hardly ever look it up.

Cartoons don't really do anything for me like that, so I don't look at either.

That said, I would still accept any type of pairing somebody decides to draw fanart of.

Yuri...

Although I don't mind yaoi if it's expertly drawn (which doesn't stop me from turning pale when I accidentally check out a book from June publishing.)

Both, even though the fanbase for both annoys the shit out of me. I don't care what orientation the pairing is. >__>

Not really a fan of either. There's no issue with the subject matter or anything (being gay myself here), but more often than not it's just... really really bad.

I'm snooty and demand exquisite plot and character development in my porn.

I prefer yuri, but have a high tolerance for yaoi too. I don't really enjoy it, but it's always kind of fun just seeing what's out there.

And I so don't use this power for evil by emailing explicit yaoi pics of their favorite anime to my friends under the subject "Did you know you have a fanclub on Facebook". Really, I swear I don't.
