HGSS Help Thread (aka Simple Questions/Simple Answers)

Hoenn Starters: Beat Red, go to Sliph Co. Building, talk to Daigo/Steven, he should be at the counter calling somebody.

Roaming Lati@s: Go to pokémon fanclub building, get the clefairy doll to bring to the Copycat in Saffron. As you walk out Daigo/Steven will show you the picture of either Latios (SS) or Latias (HG) and say they're roaming Kanto. Then go find them.

Other Lati@s: get the mysterious crystal (whatever they're calling it), which is not available yet outside of JP games. It is from a wi-fi event, you take the item to Pewter Museum and Daigo/Steven is like "omg it's the SOUL DEW" and as you walk out the non-roaming Lati@s will appear.

I already beat Red and went to Silph! He's not there.
I didn't know thsat you had to give Copycat a doll, she already had one when I met her.

ok another question, Can someone give me a list of all the things that are unlocked after beating Red? I only know that the weather trio is unlocked, the kanto and hoenn starters are unlocked, and Lati@s unlocked. I know there's a few more important and nonimportant unlocks.

Beating Red doesn't unlock Lati@s. You get the Pokedoll from the fan club in Vermilion, and as you walk out Steven show up and tells you about it. The other is a Wi-Fi event. You don't have to beat Red. I haven't beat Red yet and I have Lati@s.

I don't know what the other things unlocked are though.

Ksemanr is right on the Lati@s thing. Nothing else besides hoenn/kanto starters unlocks actually. E4 change is after 16 badges not after Red, sooo... yeah... just the two starters.

I'm planning my English SS team and I want to use a Meganium
The only problem is, I also want to use Skiploom and Dragonite.
That means 2 Grass and 2 Flying types.

The questions I want to ask are;
1. Does it matter having so many of the same type?
2. Shall I evolve my Dragonair to a Dragonite, leave it as a Dragonair or replace it? If I replace it, what for?
3. I'm using Skiploom simply because I want a high leveled Skiploom (I find them cute) So, shall I keep it on my team or replace it and find another way to train it. If I replace it, what shall I use and whats a good way to train a Skiploom to high levels?

Thank you, I know its quite a long post but I'm struggling to know what to do >.<

I wouldn't recommend two Flying and two Grass. Both have several weaknesses and really, you want a diverse team anyway. I'm not a competitive player by any stretch, but a Dragonite was part of my team in Pearl and Platinum for at least two years (Pearl anyway). I would definitely evolve Dragonair.

As far as Skiploom goes, maybe use it in the Pokeathlon?

I have caught 26 forms of Unown (A - Z).

The notes mention that there are 26 confirmed forms but two more forms (!, ?) do exist and there are 28 slots. I have not encountered the ! and ? Unowns and I was wondering if anyone else had.

Can the !, ? Unowns be caught, and if so, is there anything that needs to be done to "unlock" them?

Is there an easy way to tell if pokemon you've received from the GTS are hacked?

Hey ive just recently started to play platinum [beat all gym leaders, currently on victory road] and ive loved it so far its brought back alot of good times and i was wondering how Soul Silver is compared to platinum.

can you get the same type of pokemon [Raltz for example] or is that only sinnoh locked? ive looked at the first impression topic but that is really ones self personal opinion.
Platinum is one of the best Pokemon games, I think. I bought Diamond and Pearl but may get it as I liked it so much.

Compared to Pokemon Platinum, Pokemon SoulSilver Version is an improvement as you get to explore the Johto and Kanto region which gives you more to do throughout the game. The Pokemon are all different from Version to Version. Most Pokemon can be found however but these are the ones that are unobtainable in Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions:

Celebi, Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Jirachi, Deoxys, Turtwig, Grotle, Torterra, Chimchar, Monferno, Infernape, Piplup, Prinplup, Empoleon, Cranidos, Rampardos, Shieldon, Bastiodon, Drifloon, Drifblim, Glameow, Purugly, Stunky,
Skuntank, Magnezone, Leafeon, Glaceon, Probopass, Rotom, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Heatran, Regigigas, Cresselia, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus

If you don't want to wait until Ecruteak, then I suggest training up that Slowpoke into a Slowbro. I think on the whole, it will serve you better, and iirc, Slowbro is a bit bulkier than Slowking.

2 questions: Can you adjust the time on your DS to harvest berries faster? And if you catch a pokemon in a Friend Ball and trade it, will the pokemon's happiness under the new trainer grow faster as it would with it's OT, or does it grow normally?
I don't know exactly if adjusting the time will make berries grow faster. It doesn't work on Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum Versions so I am guessing not. I can try tomorrow for you and let you know what I come up with.

The Friend Ball only starts the caught Pokemon off at a boosted happiness value of 200. If you traded the Pokemon in that Friend Ball to a friend, the happiness value would be reset to a value of 70. The method you are thinking of is what happens with the Luxury Ball as it increases the Happiness Value over time with the Trainer.

I would also suggest checking out the happiness page as it tells you all about the Happiness Values and such:

Yes, you can encounter the ! and ? Unowns. They are also found in the Ruins of Alph after you have completed all of the puzzles. In addition to completing the puzzles you must have captured every other Unown. They will then be available where you find the rest of the Unown down in the Ruins of Alph.

Thanks for the fast response!

I'll have to go catch them now.

There are several things that you need to check:
- Check the Pokemon location caught with where the Pokemon can be found
- Make sure the Pokemon has legitimate moves that it is able to learn
- If it is a starter evolution it can only be in a Poke Ball

For the Elite Four you need at least a Pokemon for each group that can easily defeat Psychic, Poison, Fighting, Dark, and Dragon-type Pokemon. I would suggest adding a Psychic-type Pokemon to your group such as Natu or Abra. I would suggest leveling them up enough to learn the move Psychic which Natu learns at Level 47 and Kadabra learns at level 40.

Is the Celadon City Game Corner in Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver Versions?

How do you get to those (Sinjo i think) ruins? Can't find. I have arceus, fateful, non-hacked, but can't find ruins :boom:

South of Violet city, go through the building on the left of the path. Make sure to have an extra spot in your team, Arceus also must me walking behind you or the event will not activate.

Ok, so I do not care that the slots have become the Voltorb Flip stuff in the casino.

Having said that, where can you just... purchase coins? I haven't found it anywhere. That's just how I get my coins, I don't care for those side games.

Unfortunately, you cannot purchase coins; you have to play Voltorb Flip to get coins. :Z
