If Tracey was a more popular character, would Brock have never returned?

If it makes you feel any better, the mistiming of Brock's departure pales in comparison to Pikachu's Goodbye. ^_^; Episode #39, ma~an, now THAT was premature. lol

Here's another +1 for the "It's not because Tracey sucked but because Brock kicked so much butt" vote. Tracey was seen as boring and a "step down" from Brock, a.k.a. people had high standards for Tracey, high standards set by Brock, and Tracey failed to meet those standards. People kept trying to compare him to something he was not -- a comic-relief older teen male who superficially fell in love with every woman he laid eyes on.

Unfortunately, I'll never know what I would have thought about this because, back when the episodes were first airing in 2000, we already heard the spoiler-news from overseas that Brock would be returning. So his departure didn't really feel all that serious (for me and for many other older fans), and we knew we could look forward to getting him back soon enough.
