Which is why we need a Kanto game that's more like a sequel and less copy/paste. So it can benefit from those improvements.

Development time. Development time is the limiting factor that prevents these games from being as ambitious as other console games. The kinds of large scale games that are prevalent on consoles take 3-5 years to make, sometimes more. We're obviously not getting that if they're pumping out 4 games in a row.

It could be like a sequel or different in other areas, we don't even know yet what it is. Maybe some fans need to stop expecting the type of "ambitions" they see in other console games and using them as an excuse to call Pokemon games that haven't been announced yet lazy.

A new spin-off game has been announced. This game is Pokémon Quest and is coming to the Nintendo Switch and mobile. It's a free to start download title which starts with the Kanto Pokémon and is controlled with the Switch's touchscreen

You can lose sales by falling behind the competition though. That's the danger with Pokemon if they don't catch up to console standards.
