PokeParents

Not quite... I remember trying once, with Crystal Version... but they couldn't see the screen. They are able to recognize and name a good portion of the original 150 Pokes, though, and they get the basic idea of the games. My mom has watched me play PBR a few times, and I seem to remember getting my Grandma to play XD on the Gamecube, because she was curious as to what I was playing, but she doesn't truly qualify as my parent.

My mom wouldn't care a less, but my dad then is really interested about Pokémon in strategy wise. I actually just showed some of my PBR videos to him today and explained what I was doing and why. Well, he probably will never play Pokémon himself, but he has always supported my Pokémon hobby and after realizing that those battles also needs startegy skills, he has supported me even more :--).

I can't believe I forgot: Back when the N64 was still new, my mom played Stadium. Mostly the minigames, but sometimes she would watch me battle.

Now, one of her favorite Pokemon is Gengar because of its stadium idle animation. For those who aren't familiar with it, Gengar's idle animation had it sticking its tongue out at the opponent. She promptly declared it her favorite and thinks that the :p Gengar should return.

She also likes shadowblob Giratina.

It actually wiggles its hips in its idle animation. But it does stick out its tongue upon being sent out.

I tried to teach my mom pokemon a while ago...

Me: Are you in the next town yet?
Mom: No, wild pokemon keep getting in my way! And then they kill my pokemon and then I have to get back to that hospital again.
Me:....You do know there is a button called "run", right?
Mom: ....Wait, What?

I don't think she will ever get it, but it's fun watching her try xD

Too bad mine don't care about videogames or my hobbies in general, I'd really like to teach someone to play... They told me my cousin got Diamond, but I didn't expect her to have Dialga already and destroyed me.

Neither of my kids can read yet (my oldest is four) but I can't wait to teach her how to play. I'm planning on teaching her as soon as she starts... I figure it'll be a good way to help encourage her to learn to read!
I think it would be quite hard to start with an RPG like pokemon without having played videogames before... (assuming she hasn't already). But I think it would also be encouraging for reading more and helping to read (I actually learned with Legend of Zelda), and she will like it in a future... So yes, you should go for it.

My dad asked me to explain Pokemon to him. Straight up said

"So, explain Pokemon to me."

To use a common political phrase, that is one loaded question.

My dad played regularly til he came to the city with the casino and got his coin case...he hasn't used a pokemon since. he's got over 7,000 coins so far, it's a sickness!

that is the hardest question I've ever heard ever, and I've heard a few hard one's like "Name everything."

When I was little I'd be playing Mario or something and my mom would want to play but then she'd kill me and I got mad. D: After that she pretty much stopped trying to play video games. The closest she has now is my brother got her into Neopets a few years ago and at 48 years old she goes on there and plays Flash games every day. :p So forget Pokemon, neither me nor my brother have the patience to try to explain that one.

Tell your mother has great taste and that I agree, gengar is adorable when it does that (and of course is awesome in general :D).

Actually I think something slow paced like that isn't a bad start. Pokemon doesn't have to be the way more hardcore players play it, it can be a game where you only use your starter and just go through the story, I've known adults who have done that lol. My first games were for the Atari 2600 and more fast paced (at least compared to the actual game play part of the Mainseries Pokemon games) and as much as I'd probably start my future kids off with something like that, I don't think an rpg with turn based battles is a bad idea just because there is more time to think and you can take as long as you need to to act.

My Dad told me that he thought the games were childish, and that me wasting my money on them (when I was like... 12) was a waste because I would grow out of it eventually.

Almost 7 years later. Still playing. That liar. >:[ I don't think he's very proud of me though. ;~;

My dad rags on my hobbies all the time. The other day, I got up to watch the anime and he walks past my room and sees me in bed watching it and looks at me and says

"Do you realize how sad it is you're getting up to watch this?"

My Mom doesn't care too much for Pokemon, but my Dad does:D
He always helps me when I'm stuck in the game and plays the Pokemon games with me:D

Why my parents are not like yours. :D My mom just stares me like "how can you play that nonstop"... Once I just started whining when I found a Sandshrew in my HeartGold, and again I got that stare.

What can I do, my parents are boring. :DD
