My favorite thing about it was easily the sense of wonderment that only exploration in a scifi/fantasy title can bring, of which this had multiple great moments. Unfortunately, everything else about it kinda sucked. The rest of the plot was pretty generic and uninspired, the dialogue was a bit cheesy, and most of the characters were horribly cliched with no development. Music was pretty good, though I personally would have preferred less brass and more orchestra.
Still, as I'm sure fans of fantasy and scifi will attest to, a well thought out universe can play a huge role in one's enjoyment of a piece of fiction. Sakasama no Patema had an interesting internal history and paced all the reveals (regarding said history and aspects of the universe) really well, enough that it remained engaging despite the mediocre events unfolding on screen.
